I'm looking to buy a Minimax ASB primarily for the synth, of course. But would it also work as a MIDI controller for a softsynth like MiniMonsta or minimoog V? Could I assign the knobs to the corresponding knobs on a softsynth?

The ASB have fixed MIDI CC message assignments (listed in the manuel).
This could also be used to remote control a MINIMAX Klangbox from the ASB model (by setting the ASB unit to local off).
I think what you wish to do would be possible if you can re-assign the MIDI CC map in the soft synth. Then it only depend on the softsynth features.
