Focusrite Liquid Mix in Scope

Post by ColourField »

Hi everybody,

is there anybody using Focusrite Liquid Mix in conjunction with SFP? I have recently bought it and currently have to use it as a plug in with Samplitude V8,but would like to use it as an insert effect in the SFP mixers when mixing projects (I like to set up the ASIO outs in Samp to to recording mixer in SFP and conduct compression/eq within the scope environment).

I have tried loading the vst drivers into the plugin folder in SFP, to no avail. I assume this means that SFP doesn't support VST? Any comments, suggestions appreciated. :)

righty right, you have to 'fake-physically' connect the 2 environments via Asio channels, adds a bit of latency, but probably not a big deal as it's easy to compensate - depends on what and where you monitor.

fake-physically?

Thanks for the reply, however "fake-physically" conjures up the wrong image! :o What exactly do you mean by that? If you have a SFP project setup that uses that particular arrangement could you email it to me so I can see what you mean? Would definitely be cool to do, as Liquid mix is fantastic "in the mix".

oops, I thought 'fake' would transmit the idea...
I meant to treat the Asio connection exactly as if it was a 'physical' cable.

(say) 8 outboard channels coming in on Adat (into SFP, Adat source)
connect the Adat sources (1-8 ) to Asio destinations, say Asio 1-8
1 Asio latency unit (3,7,13 or 25 ms, whatever your ULLI is) later they arrive in your Sequencer
to be processed by the Liquid mix inserted in the respective channels

the Sequencer's Asio outs appear in Scope as Asio Sources, so SFP receives the result of the Liquid mix another Asio latency unit later on Asio Source 1-8.
connect those sources to Scope mixer channels and you'll have the basic setup

the roundtrip is about 2 times the Asio latency, for obvious reasons, as the signal goes from SFP (physical Adat) to the Sequencer (Asio), gets processed by LQM and is sent back to SFP (Asio).
exactly like outboard gear with cables.

I dunno if it matches your real setup, if you really have Adat inputs on SFP, but it doesn't matter to illustrate the principle.

Thanks Tom,

Sounds a bit complicated, will print out your reply and have a go at it. I use a A16 ultra but it should be the same as the adat stuff. I'll let you know how I get on with it - I have a large 11 song album to mix, so this will help immeasurably. The buffer size requested by Liquid Mix is 1024, but to get Samp up on the track count it needs more like 8192, so putting Liquid into it's own area will free up things somewhat!

Thanks again,
