Right i'm in the process of backing up all data onto external hd and then I will be pulling out unnecessary oci cards so I'm left with just scope boards occupying pci.
Got myself a 7port usb hub so I dont use all motherboard usb as I hacve been having conflicts with usb controller and scope.

Just need some advice on best way to organise creamware files really. At present i have a scope folder, an sfp folder and a creamware folder!! All with duplicate plugs and it's getting to be annoying to say the least. Not to mention presets

copy the device folders and preset folders to be sure you don't lose anything. you can put anything missing back where it belongs when the new install is finished. use another drive or a thumb drive or a cd to save your backed up folders.

a hub can be useful, but all or most of your ports will still work even if you disable all but 1 usb controller. they act like a hub. fewer controllers will mean fewer total usb devices can be used simultaneously. even only one controller is usually enough, two certainly will be. if you use programs/accessories/system tools/system information/hardware resources/conflicts-sharing you'll see numbers and letters giving a name to the usb controller that is sharing an irq with the scope card. you can then go to the device manager and disable that controller.

don't make it any tougher than it needs to be, just back it up even if you only suspect it would be useful. since you are using the external harddrive storage option there'll be plenty of space. you can sort things out later...

Since takibg out a pci firewire card and installing a third scope card I've noticed usb conflicts. So I planned on disabling all but one port and then plugging in the 7port external hub.
The only non scope on the pci is a raid card which will be coming out to

don't disable usb ports.

disable usb controllers based on irq conflicts shown in system info. just disable a bunch of ports will only cripple usb but won't nessessarily fix anything.

Gary we were talking about the same thing but I made a mistake in the terminology. I meant controllers.
Almost ready to reinstall. Ghosted a whole load of stuff and got my external (powered) usb hub. Taken out the pci firewire, usb and raid. Do usb controllers stay on the same pci after an install, or can windows put them anywhere?

irq-wise?
no, that's all changing on the new install. the hardware has changed. it's hard to say exactly what will happen from here. there is a "logic" and pattern to how windows assigns irqs, though.

I am in favor of a folder that contains all various cwa apps.
I have a Creamware folder with several apps (you can keep older versions too). It allows to keep C: more tidy and allows a backup with one single drag and drop.

For example, a user may own all of the following applications and if you hate to look in your disk root full of folders, this method is for you :

Code: Select all

C:/
  /Creamware/
           /Noah/
           /Scope/
           /Scope SDK/
           /SFP/
           /Triple Dat/
... so you don't think too much to find your various cw folders
