no, the registration procedure has changed.
Some say would say the registration server was taken off the net due to hacker attacks, some would consider it the final response to the 'shop bug'

these are no demos and there will be no more 'old-style' CWA demos - there was a severe security issue with them

cheers, Tom

no more old style, with just the time limit
there may be muted or interupted stuff, but most of that was rather painful in the past.

Ok.. no more old-style demos.. Then, where are the new-style ones? Or when they will be available?

BTW, what is/was the 'shop-bug'?

the shop bug was a bug in the shop software (of CWA's online store) - what a smart definition

immediately(!) after online activation of your free Scope 4.0 key the shop prices of certain CWA plugins were reduced by 50% (as a 'reward' for being a loyal customer) and you could pick one plugin of choice - then the prices were switched back to regular.

the bug was that you could 'activate' the key as often as you liked, the system didn't seem to have an 'already served' list.

they possibly have sold more than ever this way, mostely due to the 'exploit character' of the transaction which made people buy quickly '...as long as the feature is available...'

Imho they were always in control of the situation and appreciated the cashflow, and the show was probably stopped by stores like Thomann who most likely got aware of the strange competition

cheers, Tom
(no guarantee for the correctness of my conclusions)

Thank you for your answers Tom!

It is a pity there are no demos any more!..How are you supposed to buy something if you cannot try it? Ok, everybody says that PSY-Q and Dynatube are great... I say Greek feta-cheese is great, but that doesnt mean that everybody is going to like it!.. It is a matter of taste... and we cannot "taste" CW plugs any more.. sad..

yes, it's a pity, but understandable - and not only for the sarcasm following...

According to a developer no more than 3% of the downloads of his $99 device resulted in a purchase.
Probably 2% were convinced anyway (and just wanted to confirm their decision), so for a 1% success rate I wouldn't even think about it.
Even betting on horse races is more profitable...

on the other hand the sound examples aren't that bad - regarding 'sound'. One simply has to ignore the 'musical' content
at least it worked with the Profit5 (in my case) - which was the first CWA device I couldn't demo.
I bought Zarg's QWave because(!) of an audio example and didn't even ask for a demo - it would have been a waste of time

I completely understand your point, but at least there IS some usable information by what people 'review' here, what's used in the 'music section' of planetZ, and some experience with CWA sound in general (it doesn't sound bad just overnite).

cheers, Tom

I see your point, but *I* want to try my shoes before I buy them!

The situation is indeed "understandable" as you explain it... BUT... isn't everything in life "undestandable" after all? If somebody comes and kills my family, someone may find it "understandable" because the killer was crazy, or had psychological problems, or was mistreated as a kid, blah, blah, blah etc etc..
My point is: "undestandable" does NOT necessarily mean "good"...

Anyway... it's time to make some music..
