ASB's, First Steps Towards New Concepts?
I think CWA has started something with these boxes. Proving that integration w/ computer and hardware is great for live players, while doing 1:1 emulations of beloved synths,etc.,etc. I hope that John Bowen or CWA come up with an expandable synth with out having to have an onstage computer. These hardware SHARC boxes are the future I think, and hopefully once people can make money doing emu.'s, they will be popular enough to take the next step in making a Solaris type synth. I could still use my GS3/Scope box seperate from this, and in case trouble arises, it would have no effect on SHARC box. This is a great relief to know that microsoft cannot overbloat my beloved SHARC's. Totally independant from it's O.S. That, and the overbloated code on the big sequencer packages. I still could use my Roland MC-500 MkII which has never crashed in 20 years!! I fear change in that respect. Since I have no need to sequence vocals, or audio tracks for current live gigs, I could concentrate on content w/o fear of computer crashes and such, although I haven't had one yet. I hope someone is reading this, and nodding in agreement. Cause if CWA comes out with another ASB emu., at least give the Oberheims a listen if you still feel compelled to recreate every synth ever made, aaaarrrrgghh!! Hell at this rate I can get rid of my rack cases and start buying shelves for my new stage rig, 30 ASB's ran by 2 big 88's. Hey be original and make a Therimin ASB, or a Gleeman Pentaphonic ASB, you could make money on those, they would only need one of the old 60MHz SHARC's sitting on your dusty shelves.
In case no one here is aware - I've established an account where I can keep in touch with those who are interested in a hardware version of Solaris. If you would like to be kept on a list regarding future information about such a product, please send an email to:
