I have a unregistered S&S pack, now a friend of mine has a system with only a Scope-home board, can he do something with only 3 DSP's if I give him the pack.?
Can anyone with only scope-home and a S&S-pack, tell me what are limitations?
thanks

home dsp's
A Scope Home on it's lonesome is more of an 'intro to Scope' test-bed than anything else IMO. That's what we started with (as full price paying customers) years ago. We were really happy with it as a basic DSP based audio card, as it had so much more on offer than any other product of the time. (apart from the bigger Scope cards) After buying the ADAT expansion (again at it's original price) we were able to interface it with our first ever DSP card, the DS2416. All this sounded great at the time, but in reality the Scope home's lack of DSPs limits it to the extent that these days I really wonder why they didn't make the 6 DSP boards in the first place as their entry level system or just market the 3 DSP boards as DSP boosters instead of standalone products.
Admitedly, 3 sharcs on a PCI card was nothing to sniff at back then, but in reality the Scope Home & original 3DSP powersampler boards could only really do one task at a time. I mean, you could run the STS sampler or load a synth or mix, but anything even remotely resembling serious multitasking is not part of the 3 DSP familly specifications .
In otherwords, he'll be able to check out most of the synths monophonically & not much more. You will most certainly give him the hunger for sharcs by giving him the S&S pack, as he'll need more to do anything really efficiently production wise.
