Oh how the tabloids wailed at poor Kylie having breast cancer. Just tough luck for everyone else at the hospital:

@ Liquid Len
Since the European EU has signed for 'free market', all public services like energy, railways, communication etc. and now also health care organisations must operate in a free enterprise context.
Liberalisation...
The director of the hospital must have thought, if people know we are doing the tits of K.M., then that's good for our position on the market'.
Poor K.M....

The Dutch common people yesterday rejected in a referendum the socalled European constitution.
The liberalisation is one of the many devellopments that people don't want at all.

Man, Holland is in commotion, 85% of our parlement (including the main part of the opposition) fighted for a yes, while 62% of the votes said no...
And like in France, extreme left and right agreed about a definitive no.
But that's OT

It appears she didn't ask for it. Probably didn't know about it. And will doubtless be distressed to hear about it. Take out your venom on the hospital.

@Hubird

Thanks for explaining, I would have associated 'liberalisation' with some kind of specifically left-wing thing, instead of globalisation.

Now I know, now I know, now I know. (The Prophet's Song, Queen)

I agree with the sentiment expressed and I feel my own country Canada doesn't have the health care system it once had. I don't honestly know enough to say whether it's directly related to one of these NAFTA treaties we've been signing, etc, but the deterioration is right under your nose, and it is scary (like, Count Floyd scary). I can wait two years to get an MRI scan or something like that, or just go to Quebec where I can pay a few hundred dollars to get it done on the same day...

Canada's health care system has been destroyed by the voters. For 30+ years we have elected governments who cut cut cut. What do we expect? Ditto for Europe. The individual and the society get what "the majority" deserves. Even if "the majority" is typically only 40% of the population.

Incidentally with a 57% "in favour" vote, British Columbia recently rejected (because it needed 60% to pass) electoral reform. We could have done away with first-past-the-post. But nope. No change. We get what "the majority" deserves.

Even if "the majority" is only 43% of the population!

Spirit - as Hubird pointed out, it's private healthcare which is the problem here.

Would it have been better to expose all those elderly patients to potential annoyance from photographers etc as they were in the same ward as Kylie? I can see the sensationalist headlines now... "Elderly patients subjected to paparazzi annoyance because of scummy Kylie's presence in the ward".

There are way more fucked up things going in the world at the moment, don't you think?

There are lots more things worse. But the hysterical pandering to so-called 'celebrities' is certainly one of many societal sicknesses imho. The 'celebrities' could at least be people who do worthwhile things like unravel virus genomes or build useful technology, not some soft-core singer, or millionaire tennis players.

And the shite from her PR spin-masters that 'she knew nothing' just makes it worse. Being simple fans we're supposed to believe that she walks into an empty ward and thinks nothing of it.

I have no problem with people paying the money for the best service. Build your own private hospital if you've got the bucks and hire your own doctors.

But I do have a problem with patients being kicked out of their beds and then the 'star' trying to deny they knew anything about it and it was all ok.

You don't need to empty wards to ensure privacy.

Here's another story about this crap:

And yes this is crap. Crap that 'celebrities' get to trample over citizens.

I agree about the hysterical thing, but you're missing the obvious
imho it's not a special treatment the 'star' demands due to a strange self-estimation, but in fact a protection from stories like 'next bed to K', 'first shot after exam', 'K at beakfast', etc.

One or the other patient or his/her visitors is not unlikely to take advantage of the situation, digicams and recorders are incredibly small, as we all know.

A certain kind of press IS paying incredible prices for such leakages. Don't blame them, tho - it's the audience buying that sh*t next day on the news stand.

cheers, Tom

Very true, but then 'celebrity status' is usually something which little celebrities try very hard to continually increase, so it breeds all this unhealthy devotion.

I find this whole area very curious.

For example, sport 'stars' ... All the top players are millionaires. So really what people are really watching (golf, tennis, motor racing etc) is incredibly rich people playing each other.

Nationality is tacked on to each millionaire so we dumb viewers know who we should be supporting.

This reminds me of awed peasants watching her ladyship trot by in her carriage and being awed and dazzled by her ladyship's new dress. Then watch in wonder from the bushes as the Lord & his fellow aristocrats play croquet.

Step forward a few centuries and the new 'peasants' are still watching in awe and longing at her Ladyship's new dress, or the rich Lords playing their games.
