I'm thinking about upgrading to a new mobo/cpu combo with raid... any successes out there?
thanks

I commissioned a custom DAW made by Sequoia Digital in N. Hollywood. It is a Samplitude system with Raid... what happens is the computer sees 2 harddrives as one and records to both simultaneously... the result is a large increase in speed. That's how I understand it... the system did not have pulsar however... but I have 2 Pulsar II cards in my set up... I would like to upgrade to increase speed and my DAW's ability to handle more.

yes that form of raid will increase track count, but at the expense of reliability. 5 years ago, hard drives were much slower and a system like that required raid(scsi) to get an adequate track count. you can certainly get 30+ tracks with an ide drive these days....that said, if you want to use raid go ahead, just knowe that you will be much more likely to lose data(non raid will likely never lose data) and you will eat some resources with raid...lots of users do use raid successfully.

thanks, Gary...
I was unaware of the problems with raid... the machine I commissioned is an amazing DAW... wish it was mine! I took it to Mongolia & set it up there. Perhaps I should just upgrade mobo & cpu & memory(right now I have P4 2.4 on an old Asus p3bf)... thanks for the tips.
