What are the distinctions (besides # of slots) between Solaris, Ambient RD, and Dark Star since they all use the RD Modules/Flexor/SpaceF Satellites?

DarkStar is a beast for bass+fat basic sounds, Ambient for moving pads based on Waldorf synthesis, Solaris can have anything combined with anything. DS is light on DSP usage, the other ones heavy.
Depends on what you want for the start and for your music and it's no fault to own all of them.
Solaris is recommended if you want to build up your own sounds. Whatever is available on the Scope platform, there is a slot where you can throw it in and check out if it sounds like you want it. The other ones are more fixed in their base oscillators, Standard or Waldorf, and then it's up to your choice. Easier for beginning to explore the range of osc's combined with whatever filters and effects. Ambient is a very mighty thing, there is no better Waldorf besides the originals.

..hmmm...looks like I have to budget for more dsp's ambient rd and solaris seem to be what I need for sound design: giving me modularity to the extreme (using RD, Flexor, SpaceF, ModIII) without the cable filled confusion of Modular III. Useful information...thanks.
