I'm thinking about getting a new DAW. My current DAW is a PowerMac G4 running Mac OS 9, Pulsar II - Z-Link I/O, Scope SRB, Scope 4 and Cubase. The Z-Link I/O is connected to an A16 Ultra. The Z-Link's ADAT I/O is connected to a Roland DIF-AT, connected to a XV-5080.
I want to add a 24 ADAT I/O expansion to the Scope SRB as well as a Sync Plate. This would allow me to connect the G4 to a new DAW, a PowerMac G5 running Mac OS X (duh!) with a MOTU 2408MkIII, which features 24 ADAT I/O as well.
My questions are: Is is possible to connect a 24 ADAT I/O card to a MOTU 2408MkIII without too much trouble? Scope will remain sync master, all other devices sync slaves. The G5 would be used for recording the outputs from Scope together with the audio tracks from Logic/Cubase on the G5.
Also, is it possible to make connections from the G5 back to Scope, allowing me to use the mastering plugins and get the output back into the G5? Any latency issues to consider? Right now I'm working with 24 bit 48 KHz and 3 ms latency in the Scope environment.
I wouldn't even consider this setup if Creamware offered G5/Mac OS X support, but I don't think there will be a stable Mac OS X version anytime soon. I simply can't wait any longer for something that may not even come at all. I'm perfectly fine with my PowerMac G4/Mac OS 9/Scope combo, but it's not fast enough to handle the entire arrangement for the projects I'm working on.

I checked with Creamware, but somehow they insist I opt for the Z-Link card every time I ask and not the 24 ADAT. My supplier is having trouble getting a 24 ADAT from Creamware, so maybe they are out of 24 ADAT cards.

I've been a Mac user for as long as I can remember. The thought has crossed my mind, moving to a Win PC, but honestly I'd rather switch professions than ever use a Win PC on a daily basis. Not to start the old Mac vs Win debate, but I'm 100% Mac, a full-time Mac system admin, managing 50 Mac OS X workstations and 15 Mac OS X servers at a pre-publishing company. We also have a couple of Win XP desktops and servers. All working fine. It's my personal opinion, entirely based on my own experience working with both Mac and Win. I think Macs are just more friendly to work with. They make a nice zen like sound each time you start them and smile at you while you work. I don't get that positive feedback from a Win PC.
