Happy Easter to all
Easter?
Hmmm...sorta rings a bell...that's when you put a rabbit up on a cross and if you see his shadow then spring is coming, right? If not, then you take him down and have him for dinner? Am I close?
Oh, and there's lots of chocolate, however that ties in.
I'm a Equinox and Solstice kind of guy, myself. Never cared much for the Catholic festivities. They just stole all the Pagan dates for themselves.

Sorry but I'm not Catholic.
Try educating yourself and learning to tolerate, rather than use generalities.
The majority have rights too, just like the marginal people.

Are you trying to say that I should be more tolerant of the Catholics?? I think the Catholics should be more tolerant of me!
You wanted me to just say "Happy Easter to you", too? That would make me a hypocrite, wouldn't it?
Help me out here if I am mis-interpreting your message.

P.S. Cheers for the Pagans!! At least their festivals had real meaning. They were tied directly to the life-giving earth...

Yes you have misinterpreted what I said.
Your response is centred on Catholicism, which states you have a gripe with a specific sect.Catholics aren't the only Christian people.
My message was for a certain people, not you,a Pagan who is supposed to believe in peace of all and non-religion,which is just probably a cover up for your materialistic greed.
Yes,before you say it,you, like every human has to believe in something. So don't say you're a non believer.
I think you confuse the ills of past Christian history with people who were in power that used religion as an economic force because of it's popularity.
Let me tell you if Paganism was the religion of the people,it would also be the centre of blame.
For your information and education(yes I'm being patronising aren't I!but not vicious and not wanting to make you a eunuch so you can sing for the Pope) but before civilised religions we use to sacrifice children and animals for the Gods,we used to use thousands of people to build pyramids, without humanity,we interbred etc.
Civilisation is synonymous with religion(real religion)not the one you're confused with and have been brainwashed against.
Could you also explain the Scientific age for me please which is the opposite extreme of religion where the atom bomb was dropped ethnic cleansing started etc.No blame for religion here but plain human greed, love of identity, nationality and so on.
We use to slaughter each other before religion existed(and history books could catalogue this).
Please don't come to me with your narrow minded views and feel that you need to blame something or somebody because something annoys you.Look in the mirror first.
So it's not your Easter! So why bother caring?
You don't!
So why respond?
From someone who hasn't killed anybody and wishes the best for those who are unfortunate.

I don't think anyone even holds a candle to the number of murders committed in the name of the Catholic Religion, and the Catholics are second to no religion in this regard. I guess you mean fewer Christians were killed after the Catholic Church took over the European political scene. Because they didn't seem to have any trouble eliminating anyone who didn't agree with their brand of Christianity.
The Catholic Church has thoroughout it's history detroyed entire cultures on many many occassions.
I don't think it is me who needs a history lesson. If you think for a minute that Christianity (and up unitl fairly recently that meant Catholicism or it's thinly veiled offshoots)saved people from death you are sadly mistaken. Perhaps you forget the "Inqusition", perhaps you forget about the destruction of every new world culture that they encountered. Are you really this naive? The only people the Catholic Church saved were the ones who swore allegiance to it!
Knowledge is power. Do some reading.
I wasn't putting the festival of Easter down, as you seem to think, but I was making sure that it wasn't mentioned without pointing out it's roots, which I did in what I thought was a fairly humourous way. What got your panties in such a knot?

Agreed, no need for such excitement ! It's just a debate among Z friends
Easter is one of many pagan festivals that Christians "overlayed" with one of their own celebrations. Christmas is the other obvious example.
It's similar to how Christians tended to knock down pagan temples and build churches on top.
This is all generally accepted historical fact.
As for religious tolerance, I'd compare the complete acceptance of the (for example) Roman world, with the religious wars after the advent of Christianity.
Can anyone name a single war in Greco-Roman times which had competing pagan beliefs as its cause ?

I like you because you express yourself.
But you have missed the whole root of Christianity.
Tell me(because I need eduacting, like you said)who and what Jesus died for?
Did you know that other religions didn't allow you in unless you were a different class system or a certain way.
Doesn't real Christianity or any other religion accept everbody the same and try forgive their faults?
Mistake me if I'm wrong but a person who persecutes subjugates and forces you is not religious. These things happen because,as you know(because you're so intelligent) to have a belief you have to have a power, force(usually an army)to uphold these beliefs.
These deal with the bad side of humanity and expect(non-believers)want to destroy their beliefs thus creating a vicious circle.
Why do you see the question "should Religion and Politics mix?" when you study civilisation.
Look at the Buddhist monks who have never had an army, and nearly faced complete annihalation. The slaughter of African tribes by the Protestants, their colonialism.
These do not have religious roots which I think you have been taught to believe.
Religion is the fundamental root of any identity and don't be fooled to believe otherwise. We all have habits and ways.People call them different things.
The Romans were a viscious peoples before Christianity and they slaughtered people.
Catholicism was given to the Western part of the Roman empire while the Greeks held the Eastern part.
Yes the Greeks turned Rome to Christianity, they only accepted it because they saw it as a market force. So they were just an empire with a different religion but had the same ways.
The peoples of Europe are not of genetic descendants of the first Christians.
The Crusaders saw it as a driving force and many peoples have taken over the Western side of Rome which has now become Europe, while the Eastern side was usurped and stripped of it's riches.Yes one Christian ripping the other off.Not in the name of religion but in the name of power.
Power corrupts remember.
My point is that you shouldn't label things and blame so easily.
Let's remember good people and their suffrance for humanity yes.
Give him a break for one day.
All the best
