XTCproject.pro setup
Hello,
I have a Pulsar 2 - Classic, and will be buying a Pulsar Project - Z-link and an A16 Ultra for the I/O.
I have never used XTC mode, though I'm semi-fluent with setting up SFP. I want to use XTC mode and have, basically, all of my A16 ins and outs 'useable' from within Cubase SX3. I also use my pulsar's midi in/outs as well.
If someone could describe (a screenshot of the setup) exactly how to setup the XTC setup file properly for this, it would be great. Also, it would be cool if it would allow me to monitor any outputs from a wavesource (sound forge or media player) while I am running Cubase SX in XTC mode.
I know that i COULD figure this out in a long time, but if someone could give me a good idea to start with, It would be much appreciated. So far, i've seen a few different setups, though they looked very different from each other. Please help!
I will also be using the Z-link connection to/from the A16 Ultra.
Thanks a ton,

make sure that you have all the i/o you intend to use in the project and connected to as many asio channels as you need. make a screenshot or a map so that you can keep track of your routing, i.e. what asio channels are connected to what hardware port. there are a couple of speacial devices you will want to use which are already in your xtcproject.pro such as the directplay mixer container, a device that allows xtc cw synths to be monitored without latency. make sure that they are connceted to the appropriate destinations. you can use the initial xtcproject.pro for guidance. there are also some detailed threads with xtc clues in this very forum. check for gonzoft's beginner lesson.
It's very simple: forget about XTC mode and start using SFP!!!!!!!!!!!!On 2005-01-28 06:31, 8-Bit wrote:

What makes these DSP's unique? Modular and routing. XTC kills both. Ain't that fantastic

All Pulsar routing is great. It has so many great features but not everybody need all this stuff it offers. I, for example, only bought this card for the synthesizers alone in XTC. Heck, I've seen people buy this card just for the Minimax alone. Given the price of a Scope Professional and the original synths it's well worth it! I know I could've just bought a Noah but not all emulations were available for it yet and I can always rack mount and older pc with Scope
My Pro-One keys were dead and I couldn't find any sound difference anyway so why buy another Pro-One when I could just have a Scope Project for the same price with a Pro-Tone plus more emulations.

L8ter Oscill8ters!
I found a default project and a Scope XTC project. I backed them up and tried editing them but when I shifted to XTC mode I just kept getting lots of error messages so I went back to the backups. Clearly you have some very specific limitations on what you can include in XTC mode so I need some guidance - pity the manual is useless for this. I still get just noise when I do a bounce down - even using realtime export in Tracktion. I can playback a midi track and record it into an audio track but that's it.

Well,
I got my A16ultra and Scope-Project Z-link in the mail today. I'm gonna try to install it soon and get all the routing setup for XTC mode.. I'm still unsure if I will definitely use XTC or SFP, but that will all come with time.. I'm revamping my whole studio setup (many upgrades) and as a result, I don't know how things will work 'best' productive-wise.
Cheers,

Keep us informed....... I'm soon gonna set up the following system:
mics/outboard FX/other stuff --> 32 ch outboard analog console --> outboard console send --> 2 x A16 Ultra -> Pulsar 2 & Luna II w/expansion in XTC mode --> Cubase SX2 --> 2 x A16 Ultra -> return to analog outboard console. Should be a blast....I'll post the setup and specs as soon as I get everything stable and working but in the mean time I am scanning all tip & tricks at the fab. PlanetZ forums.

OK, i've been reading this forum since i got my Pulsar II, last week, i just figured out how SFP work, but can't figure how XTC does.
Just a question. To run XTC mode, SFp must be shutted down, right? Must i load the xtcproject first, then i shut down the SFP?
Thanks a lot... cheers from Rio de Janeiro - BRazil. GR

f*** XTC.
Well, I've come to the conclusion that I need to ignore my ideas of XTC and go with SFP. Why do you ask? Because I don't want any silly problems causing my system to act strange. I need streamline. I need a surgically clean work surface. Thus, I'm sticking with SFP. I got my A16U rocking and kickin ass. Furthermore, with 12DSP now, I am seeing a large benefit to using Synths (6dsp was not enough to use polyphony). Fortunately i'm setting up several SFP templates that will be just like an XTC setup that I planned on.
Basically, I'm goign to setup SFP with 2 or 3 synths loaded up and titled it "minimax+vector-template" or whatnot, and another one with other synths "othersynth+othersynth-template". That way I won't have to recreate stupid templates every time I want to work.. I can just load it up, get into cubase and ROCK TILL MY EYES BLEED. Woohoo. My only distaste so far is the ASIO direct monitoring function in cubase.. I would PREFER that the audio coming in could be heard POST-instert/fx, without recording it...

The direct monitoring function in Cubase is made for zero-latency instrument tracking. It doesn't really go into Cubase, it gets sent back immediately (and unprocessed) to the ASIO outs for monitoring, to prevent getting ASIO latency into the signal. If you turn off direct monitoring, you should hear your signal post-fader/fx (but with ASIO latency.)On 2005-03-03 10:47, 8-Bit wrote:

Since you will be using SFP mode tho, for stuff playing in SFP (synths etc,) you can monitor directly your sounds without going thru ASIO.
