OT: some reasons why I haven't upgraded to SP2 yet

Software will always have vulnerabilities. Refusing to upgrade doesn't avoid this. Buy a hardware router/firewall (or use an old pc) and get rid of the worry of comprimise. There are even ways you can better isolate machines even when on an internal LAN. If you're only using your WinXP box for SFP alone look into nLite then there will be much less to patch if you do ever find yourself going to windowsupdate.
Incidentally aside from bringing new potentials for bugs SP2 actually adds small speed improvements to most of the things it patches since the newer binaries were compiled under newer compilers.
