Hi all,
Been a little while since I last posted in this section, been busy with all sorts of things, here is my latest work, a remix of holmes and ives - where you are. This was a cool mix since I spent a small eternity on doing wierd little vocal edits and really trying to push my CW system.
Many many uses, too many to name, I went oldschool on this one and used probably 65% analog outboard gear, lots of UAD,TC,CW plugs, STM2448, Vinco's, Multiple Interpoles and a whole lot of edits and crossfades hehe.
I am somewhat happy with the overall mix though its so damn compressed I must admit it sort of sucked the life out of some parts, but thats todays mixing and trance I guess hehe, I plan to work some more on the overall EQ curves of the track in time, but lemme know what ya think.
Thanks for your time!
Cheers!

Very very nice, I don´t like trance very much but sometimes there are pieces that makes me shakes my head around and let me dance through my room.
So this track.
Something constructive, I would open the reverb to the girls voice, but not all throughout her sentences, only to the end of a sentence. You did that later in the break, wow, but I would like to hear her voice vanishing in a Reverb earlier the track.
Well, nothing more to say, excellent song.

Hey Chris!
Thanks for the review its much appreciated, I will give it a go and see what I can work with some more verb in areas of the vox, I was trying to be really carefull not to muddy things up to much since there are triplet patterns playing on top of 16ths and while in the context of the mix they blend I find if too much gets going things start to sound messy so I tried to keep it open in areas and use soft delays and a chorused flange on the vox to give a dark vibe.
Definetely something I will try though, a little more ambience of sorts
Any comments on the EQ of the mix, I feel as if its a little heavy on the low freq's but that just might be my car system since I have been playing it alot, I could be hearing things.
Gotta say, this was the 1st track I used a few instances of the Interpole, man trhat thing just rocks, its a filter beast hehe.
Anyways, ill give it a go, thanks again for the reply!
Cheers!

Heya Ken,
Awesome, you hit the nail on the head exactly! Your comment about how each instrument change counts is exactly the effect I was going for, awesome to see it become apparent from anothers perspective.
I was really trying to keep this sort of darkness to the mix a feeling from within, far from happy, a subtle almost ambient mood, where the instrumentation would lead the song and the vocal effects would serve as fills and such.
Really appreciate the reply, thanks for listening!
PS. I have some info saved to a document at my home PC ill send ya this eve about the PM ya sent me..
Cheers!

hi there.
Well, i too think it is a little bass heavy, according to my headphones. my crappy desktopspeakers (no sub) likes it a lot tho. Might take this down to the studio and give it a listen thru my monitors.
Another thing, and this is just my personal preference, i find the chorused flange on the vox a bit to heavy at times... maybe soften it a bit, and send the wet thru a subtle delay?
Then again this is just me
Overall a great track, congrats

Wow! I really have to look hard to find anything to criticize, helluva job! Bravo!
The programming and production are soooo good. Pefect arrangement as well.
I only wanted for one thing: in the middle break where almost everything stops, I would like to hear some of her "naked voice" as well, just the first phrase real clean and up front. so it almost scares you! I dunno...
No...really I'm grasping at straws...top quality work.
What kind of synths did you use??

Hi again,
Thanks for the replies Piddi & nprime! I think I still need some work on the overall EQ, I actually had a perfect version EQwise, but it had a pop in the vocal of the break, messy crossfade, of course when I went back to try and recreate the curve again, it never sounded the same.
As far as the vocal wide open, ide love to but.. and theres always one of those right? The vox is super nasty sounding, I had to use the TC EQsat all over the vox parts to surgically remove all the ugly remnants, infact thats one of the reasons I decided to use the chorus and flange on the vox, to cover all the mess, theres a super quick gate on the vocal cause who ever tracked the vocalist must have been using some cans that had no ear pieces lol, there is so much bleeding its silly.
Now as far as outboard stuff, there was some really whacky things going on, as an example the warm pad sound in the start of the track is actually not a pad, but an organ filtered, EQed and effected. I use a few channels with the Nord 2, bass is from an SH-101, Virus & JV1080 makes an appearance.
Was kinda cool because for the most part all synth parts and sound were created using outboard gear. Effects were all internal stuff from TC,UAD & CW plugs.
Anywhoo im still at work and bored so I keep replying to every one lol, thanks for the positive words.
Any one else care to comment on the EQ of the mix, maybe I am being to critical since I have listened to it about a thousand times already.
Alsomost forgot, Piddi, as far as the 2nd verse that sounds a bit to heavy on the phase, thats actually an artifact from the vocals, thats why it doesnt sound so strong in any other parts aside from that area, unfortunately another added thing that makes this noticable is the audio editing I did with the vocals, the effect I use to do that creates a bit of a crushed sound if you will.
Thanks again all,
Cheers!

Hi all,
Been real busy as of late with life and work and all havent had much time to post or upload new material. Just wanted to say thanks for all your kind reviews, it means alot to me.
I think pretty soon I am going to try and jump back into the deep end in the industry afetr some burnout a few years back.
As far as this sounding american, well hehe, im american so that influence could have something to do with it, I really just wanted an ambient yet dark vibe sort of feeling, I think the mood is set right, the vocals are a little stretched since the original this mix was done for is a DnB track that comes in around 160bpm, I did my best, had fun with the little vocal edits, too time consuming but fun none the less.
This mix sort of sounds a bit like Gabriel & Dresna or what ever those guys are called, they did the motorcycle remix, but people have been saying they here allot of paul vandyke and tiesto elements in the mix, who knows, I just made what sounded natural too me.
Cheers!
