I tried to look in the forum and this is still not clear to me...

What are exactly differences between these three drivers "families"?

(I use Sonar)

There is a good section on this within the manual inside the SCOPE application. There is definitely some voodoo in getting applications to communicate via ASIO though, so even if you know what does what it can be hit and miss.

I always try to use whatever version of ASIO I can, because to me it seems like ASIO is the highest performance, lowest level, least latency... just the best first choice. Plus I think ASIO in general has the best chance of not getting munged up by the Windows mapper and things like it. The manual should give you a good jump on the capabilities of each type.
