Everyone should get a good laugh out of this...
that's why I frequently buy old books - the predictions versus the turn of things as time went by are often amusing (though sometimes more the opposite)
That article is 5 years old - not too bad...
XP and an ASUS deluxe mobo aren't among their suggested configs, so it was quite prospective

This is funny. I was making my living as a 3d animator 1994-97 I had NT 3.51 & NT4 at home. When I built my first dual PPro (pre-Pentium2) machine I no longer had the realistic option of dual booting. Basically anything that required directx 5.x or higher was out of the picture for NT (almost everything did due to directsound drivers).THE ULTIMATE?
Multiprocessor workstation running Windows NT
RAID setup
A digital I/O card or two
A bunch of external A/D converters
etc...etc...etc...wheee!!!!
Oh, and how many audio cards worked with NT4 and gave low latency? NONE--that I could afford (especially after spending 4 grand to build a system to do 3d work at home with). It required a lot of work to get work through NT4's HAL (now with 2k & xp cards are allowed to bypass the HAL).
