This topic is not related to music or Scope, however, since we all use a PC with the Scope software I thought this could be of use. These are my findings on Computer Vision Syndrome topic courtesy of Google search engine. CVS occurs when spending prolonged hours in front of a PC monitor. The most common symptoms are: burning eyes (mines too), headaches, other (see the links below).

This is where you can get polarized glasses:

This should go under the "safe computing series"...

Besides being non blinkers TFTs give polarized light. If you have a pair of polaroid sunglasses just place them between your eyes and the screen. Then turn them (I mean the glasses, not your eyes

Anyway, the info BingoTheClowno provided is very important for everybody, thanks

That's pretty interesting - I didn't know about the focussing issues the article mentions.

Thing is, I'm in-front of a computer screen all day long at work. I get home and if I want to do some music, it's back in-front of a computer screen again! Although...I find I use the computer very differently when doing music than at work, where I am mostly "typing and staring" (which certainly is quite tiring). Our company's quite aware of eyesight issues and allow us very regular breaks from the screen (although not everybody takes them).

I have to say that after clicking to the links, reading them, then clicking back to 'Z', I noticed a definite problem with white backgrounds. The nice calm blue of Z is so much better.
Thanks for this info Bingo, very worth knowing.

Yeah, a dark background colour with light letters seems better to my eyes.

I remember from the early days of DTP that reflective surfaces on many large scale monitors weren't totally unwelcome...
mostly to catch a quick peek of good looking girls passing by behind the workplace

But seriously TFTs are a true relief. Not only the heavy magnetic field and static load, but also the emission of high to ultrasound frequencies of CRT tubes produce a lot of subconsciuos stress.

Another strange effect is the typical color generation of mixing 3 dots to one color.
Compared to a grey scale monitor this alone is way more painful, even if the dots virtually melt into one, at least this was my observation.

And finally the 'active' viewing angle has a significant influence. A 'lanscape' of 3 17" or 19" screen with important details spread over all the area is a totally unnatural thing - and after some hours your head feels accordingly

cheers, Tom
