I'm looking for a really lush, big synth patches - non 'techy', overly filtery sound, but closer to strings sounding.

I'll be using it with my guitar synth.

Which synths are good for this? So far, all the synths and modularII patches I've tested are too 'techno' sounding.

Maybe I'll just have to use the STS5000 and find some good samples.

Thanks

CS80v might be worth a look.

Wavelength Europa

Zargmusic Solaris

Zargmusic Ambient

Creamware Pro-One (soon to be relaunched as ProTone I believe)

there are several excellent flexor patches which would work (or just the flexor filters, perhaps Phil when that comes out).

I've also heard people say they can even get usable results out of 'bluesynth' (perhaps with some additional external filtering?).

hehehe... thanks for the promo, much appreciated! however, although i did some of the presets for the Ambient synth's release, it is a "Zarg" (John Bowen) synthesizer. The "Europa" is 100% mine, though.

If you use midi guitar and you have/get Modular III, I made a patch that receives on 6 channels, made to take full advantage of the midi guitar features.
You can get it here: http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... forum=15&0

I think most Scope synths use far too much DSP for big, warm pads (10+ voices), so for this one you'd have to go native. The absolute best pad machine is Spectrasonics' Atmosphere. It has every kind of pad you could imagine, plus tons of ambient sound FX and other things. Lots of stuff included. It's a great buy! They have MP3 demos on their site.

(If you do really want to use something on Scope, I think Vectron is excellent -- it also uses far less DSP than the analog synths.)

Have fun,

Shayne

Atmosphere is a good one indeed:
you can work fast, great and huge library included, enough fast editing possibilities involved, and automation provided

I often layer some outboard crap with a few voices of an SFP quality synth - usually comes out big together.
I have some extremely great sounding string pads on the DX7 and the Casio VZ8, strange, but true - the surprise of the unexpected

Another vote for Spectrasonics Atmosphere, I realize this is not a SFP synth but Atmosphere is to good to be denied

Nothing like having 6 gigs and about a 1000 patches with amazing textures, lush pads, obscure leads, motions, evolving pads, orchestral strings (only a couple but they sound BIG), live & analog pads and strings.

I could go on for a while, its a great synth, and best off all, you get anazing sounds right out of the box, light tweaking to taste, the sounds are incredible dry, add effects and this VST becomes a monster.

It does has a few negative, but the Pro's far out weigh the negatives.

Cheers!

Have you checked out the sample CD that used to come with Pulsar.....there are some good pads on it, and a string program called 'All Strings' which is very good (as long as you take the time to loop all the samples).
Also try using some of the samples in a Modular Sample Osc-based patch....you can get some great results.

Much as I dislike NI, Absynth is excellent for pads and gets good polyphony without crippling the CPU.

OK, so far I'm NOT yet totally blown away by Wavelength's and Zargmusic's synths - although I can see a lot of possibilities there. I just don't have TIME to create patches - been doing it for 25 years now.

Still going to check out other synths/modulars, but so far Atmospheres is enticing.
