Output preload setting in Device Manager, what's it for?

Does anyone know exactly what is it for and what effects does it have on performance, what value should it be set to? Is it adjusting the output buffer(s)? What are the values of the slider? (This setting is in Device Manager, CW card's properties.)

I think it's just for the wave drivers....adjusts buffer size:
large buffer = more stability, but also higher latency, but since most wave-based apps have their own preferences, I don't know how relevant it is.....maybe someone else could enlighten.
