Hi techy ones:
I'm running Pulsar II V3.0 on a pc with Win98.

I'm thinking it's about time to upgrade to 3.1c and upgrading Modular II to Modular III.

I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me:
1: What the pitfalls are
2: What problems I may encounter
3: If I need to upgrade sequentially (3.1a, b and then c) or can I just install 3.1c
4: What precautions I ought to take (I'm not a catholic  )
5: Anything else that might be of use to me, such as should I download it or get it on CD.

Thanks in advance

I'd say, go for 3.1c full @ this link and download it

make a big zip file of your current sfp directory, copy it somewhere.

Install sfp3.1c from scratch in it's own directory, in the root directory, like c:/sfp31. Mine is in c:/sfp. But first, update actual drivers to 3.1c before installing.

This way you'll have both version of sfp available. You can run one OR the other.

The only two pitfalls i can think of, is updating drivers before install while sfp is not running, and backing up all presets, downloaded devices, default project etc...

And last, go for it, 3.1C is really superior to 3.0 by a far marging

marcuspocus is right: you can have the 2 installations parallel without harm - at least on my system it worked for months.

There's a Modular 3 update on CD containing a full SFP 3.1c, too. Officially it costs a little extra, but it's very convenient to have it all on one disc

cheers, Tom

Thanks to both of you for your help - I suppose it is obvoius really to go to the Creamware site but great tips on zipping the current version out of the way etc.
Just need to find a friend with broadband internet access now for the 100plus Mb downloads.

Really grateful

Okay, it's me again and perhaps this seems out of date now that 4.0 has arrived.
Anyway, I've downloaded 3.1c and am almost ready to install (only took about 8 hours to download)- I'll save 4.0 until everyone else is happy with it

A question for Marcuspocus (or anyone who can help)please:
What did you mean by updating the drivers first?

Thanks

I mean, before trying to install sfp3.1C using the installer, you gotto go in devices manager and click update driver on the Scope Driver, and point it to your drivers directory from the sfp download.

You'll see 2 directory, one win9x and one win2k..

For XP use the win2K directory.

Thanks,
I'd cracked it (RTM) and early panic over.
Now I just need to read up on the new bits, install some of the old bits etc.
Thanks for all your help.
