Hiya,
I was wondering if there is a website listing all unreliable/shady forum visitors who try to sell you equipment, but as soon as they have the money, they don send you the stuff, or tell you a kazillion reasons why they couldn't deliver ?
I mean visitors of any (music related) forum ?
If one was to setup an online list with those cases would that site live long, or will it be DOS attackted the minute it gets online ? Would it make sense to create a site which does this ? Since it seems that this happens more and more often.
Please share your thoughts with me.
regards,
Ronald
Have you been ripped off ? / Internet scams
Ronald, I hope that this post wasn't inspired by my trading offer '2 of my dustkeepers for one of yours'
I don't visit much other forums and never received a 'strange offer', but in fact I once made a deal with someone here on planetz based on nothing but trust and goodwill.
It worked perfectly and I was very happy that such kind of business ('a man - a word') is still possible today , but it seems I've just been lucky, according to your experiences.
I have 'lost' one deal on eBay and another one may turn out good finally, though I'm not too optimistic.
Seems an increasing number of people does frauds with rather small sums systematically there, which makes actions against them rather unattractive.
I wouldn't expect a technical attack on such a site, but immediate legal steps - those people are unbelievably self-confident...
cheers, Tom

I haven't had any problems with legitimate websites but I have had some problems with Ebay. In fact, I'm dealing with an Ebay problem transaction even as we speak.
I've done a fair amount of buying and selling on Ebay the past couple of years. The majority of my experiences (especially selling stuff) have been positive. I have lost money on a few purchases but not enough to cry over.
I recently bought $18 worth of merchandise from an Ebay retailer who never shipped the product. I tried to resolve this matter directly with the seller. This guy had mostly positive feedback so it seemed like it should have been a no-brainer. But he never shipped the product and after some heated conversations with the guy over the phone, I ended up leaving him negative feedback. He responded by leaving me negative feedback in return! I was furious. All this over $18 worth of merchandise. To add insult to injury, it will cost me an extra $20 to get the negative feedback removed. What a scam!
Anyway, just be careful about buying anything over the internet. My advice is to limit the dollar amount of the purchase to the absolute minimum you can stand to lose. If you use your CC, you should be able to resolve any disputes with the CC company.
Good luck!
PS: in regards to the original post, I would never conduct business with an unknown forum entity. That just seems like a huge risk any way you look at it. Here on PlanetZ, it seems there are mostly honest and reliable people and I would bend over backwards to help anyone here. But I don't know man. It's a real risk to deal with an individual that you don't really know. Just be really careful.

As you say Krisrox, I would never buy directly from a web site. Unfortunately and fortunately, I don't have a credit card, but I still eventually would buy through the internt if thigs were clear.
The best way to buy over the internet is through a friend which is in the country you are buying from, and asking him to get it for you, if posible be.
