Berklee puts music lessons online

well, actually... no. I just checked out some of their stuff and it's actually just a bunch of teasers for their online courses, which are not free. But the free portions might be of interest to many. I guess I would still recommend you checking some of this stuff out. I'd warn you that most of the poeple here at PlanetZ are way beyond what they're trying to teach tho.

I attended Berklee in 1978. I can not tell you what it is like now but back then it was strictly a Jazz education college and they required 2 semesters of prerequisites before you could even touch a synthesizer. They taught really bad piano lounge music. In my arranging class I was given a D on an arrangement I did because "Blues can not be in a major key". So much for original thinking! The good thing about that college is I made some life long friends there but that could be true of any college. It certainly isn't going to happen online.

blues is blues regardless of the key.minor keys don't gaurantee blues.

Blues is very often the pentatonic minor scale played over the I, IV & V Major Chords.

So...is it major or minor? I dunno!

Did you really write that?
Pentatonic(blues)scale is both major and minor.

I am quoting what the teacher told me.

I'm not going to say it's a bad school because I had a bad teacher. There are good and bad teachers at all schools. I was not inspired by any of the ones I had though. Bassically to graduate besides passing the classes which were all easy is to play a few pieces and some difficult scales. I say difficult because it has to be at a very fast speed and in front of judges. I'm not sure if any of this has anythng to do with their online course.

Wow for him to tell you that is wierd.If he said sad blues can only be played in the minor key it would make sense even though some deep blues is major-Freddie king.
I thought Berklee was highly respected acdemy for music.Then again I live in UK.

Berklee is a good school. Perhaps some teachers aren't good, but many are. Let's not portray a wrong image here...

It's an okay college. It's easy to get into. The Eastman School has much higher standards. I'm sure it's a wiser choice if you are looking for that kind of college:
