It would be nice if such a plugin would become available.

CW said Dolby had extremely expensive licenses which made it impossible financially to implement. But they could include it in a separate, pay-for plugin, couldn't they?

The encocer is one case and the license is a second one: even if you had such plugin you would have to have a dolby agreement for each production to be Dolby encoded (and it costs a lot of money!). And that's only the beginning: to be able to use Dolby Digital encocer your studio room must comply to some standards and Dolby has to aprove it.

I want to make the productions only for myself, so not to make profit.

So, probably, your use of Dolby Digital Encoder would be breaking the law

The code is owned by Dolby and even if someone finds the way to reproduce it - can't use it without permission.

No, I don't want to break the law. I just want to use it creating music for myself and not for commerce.

I know, I know. I'm only trying to say the way it is, not the way it should be.

Let's get Xiph.org to develop an open source 5.1 compression algorithm and add it to the Ogg family of codecs.

I don't know anything about THX but the Dolby issue is known for me. There at the studio I work we disscussed the case frequently.

hmmmm, as i updated my Cool Edit Pro last night - to Adobe Audition.
I came across "an offer". The Adobe Video Collection.
Included is Adobe Encore DVD with AC3 en/de-coder.
Can Mr Dolby knock on my door, say  STOP?
I can't believe it, but anoyher story of course, if I distribute / sell my stuff.
I know film and music industri are desperate to make big money, but  monopol
