And how many audio tracks could go through a firewire connection? I admit that the idea seems really appealing, to have both high quality synths as well as processing power in one convenient box. But wasn't precisely what Noah offered, or aimed at?

well, except for the obvious hardware changes coming to pci, i love the cards and really don't want that to end. a box is just so much extra gear and cost. the box may be the only alternative though and i think that sucks. yes, a laptop could be integrated easier, but is an external box and a laptop really that much more portable than a lcd flat screen and a pc tower?

if the box is the best alternative, i'll go with that, but i bet it adds $500-$1000 to the price of a system......

Here, i have a tascam firewire audio/midi interface, and it can make 18 channels IN + 18 channels out at 24 bits/96khz without a single hitch at 3ms latency...

legros has a fireface 800 (rme firewire audio/midi interface) and it makes 28 in + 28 out at 3ms !

no trouble at all, my tascam is more stable than scope here, all this running on a 28€ firewire el cheapo card.

To garyb : Yes, it is ALOT more portable a laptop than ANY pc tower for sure, hey, it fit in a bag on my shoulder, and no risk of breaking that flat lcd screen carrying it not to mention the weight and chance that pci cards inside move or something... PC tower are not made to be moved...

And 500€ to 1000€ more expensive? Come on gary, be serious, for a thousand bucks you get the rme fireface or a motu, or even a protools 002r for a thousand bucks.

Noah cost about that a thousand bucks here also...

That is only a friggin metal box! Maybe 50$ more? Bah, let's say a hundred more, for design costs

BTW, i remember you had an A16U gary, there is a firewire cable connected from it to your PC. Now imagine that this box, IS the scope system.

You woud have nothing more on your desk, and also the benefit of a "plug'n play" system which you can bring under your arm to a friends place to jam, or demo to another friend, or whatever, not limited to one and only one PC...

Nah, there is a thousand advantages of having it in a box like this, and pretty much zero to having it in any PCI card format.

hmmm, maybe....
but i was refering to the idea of putting the current cards into a rack chassis....

..and i'll go with ANYTHING that is reasonable and works, especially if i don't have to throw out my old cards.....

I'd keep the actual card in the actual PC in fact... They're ok there, wouldn't change a winning combination

firewire that integrates fully with the pci card? can it be done? i certainly couldn't hate THAT!....

Not sure about integrating directly in actual scope stuff, but it could certainly bring you a second asio driver to use, and route from/to i guess...

THAT i do hate, assuming again that we are speaking of the solution to the potential hardware and(os in macs) obsolesance.
i just don't want my stuff obsolete.
if so, life goes on, but i don't find it glamorous always buying new gear, especially when the gear i have has so much life left in it.

otherwise, firewall sounds like a fine alternative product to make!

I think the box is definitely the way to go but perhaps once the development is done a card could be produced without too much extra cost.

Despite the negativity of my earlier posts I still believe they must be doing this. It's just frustrating that there have been no signs at all. Maybe they hit a few tech problems along the way.

Moore's Law says the power should have doubled at least twice in this time so fingers crossed for the equivalents of 24 and 60 DSP.

devellopers will not alone use this extra power by design, they also will invest less time in (DSP-)economic devellopment...people always seem to forget that

I want an embedded Pulsar box too! I say use one of the BSD oses, get the cards to run on it and ship it. You can use it directly *X windows* or connect from laptop using *VNC* or one of such tools remote desktop tools.

You can put your embedded box some where in a cool and quiet place. Use a dumb terminal with 3 monitors to control it remotly.... muwhahahaha

Get a backplain, plugin extra cpu cards for more functionality.. hmmm... imagine having one or morecpu cards ( http://www.ipc2u.de/catalog/0/pg.html )

running on a nice backplain ( http://www.ipc2u.de/catalog/0/bq.html )

Dont even know if its possible..... but it would be fun I think Adding creamware cards, assining them to a cpu-card.... dont know how to do inter-cards-communications but I am sure they'll figure out how to get that working!!

Some simple Asio2Ip driver which blast all audio data via the network, or some other module they choose to build. Then again gigabit might not be enough bandwith ? Of course there is always multiple network card option! Or use fiber or something. Just add the appropiate card in your embedded music box!

Or they could just talk with the guys from green hill software, http://www.ghs.com/, they seem to know a bit about embedded systems and speedy applications

Just some random thoughts which seemed more intresting then work!

I can do this for years with Timbuktu Remote with any combination of Macs and PCs...
