sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64
Oh, I see !
I installed this update later and it was not included in my Win 8.1 installation.
Hm, well, i don't have DVD , cause i installed Win 8.1 Pro from iso file - USB, which i guess was older, then your DVD installation.
I upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 Pro online , using download iso file and then burned to DVD, but if you want to do clean install of Win 8.1 Pro, it's little tricky.
You need to know a lot more then, to do clean install , like mentioned there :
http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows ... e-key.html
I guess if i download iso file now, those updates are included for sure and i'll be at the same point like you.
Maybe, if you can get older version , before that updates and then install, just thinking, but it's a lot of work then.

Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64
Yeah I tried that - got the same error as the poster on the link - I suspect that only works if the upgrade was added rather than integral to the install build.
Before I consider refereshing new DAW, Im going to check to see if he KB breaks the plugs in the same manner on the old DAW. Coz, like you said fidox, refresh is time consuming - theres the temptation to just make music for a while at least

Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 -CONFIRMATION
SOLVED - in a sense that I've further narrowed the issue down to the KB2919355 update.
Today I reinstalled an older version of WIN8 Pro and the DAS MASTERIT and LEGEND work.
Whilst they still complain about DASCOEFF11.SYS if you start Scope normally, they will load OK without error popups if I run Scope XITE as Admin (no reboot).
Tested the two devices with analog in and out processing a guitar signal for about 10 minutes, no reboot.
Now am left to re-install rest of DAW stuff, and maybe an issue w/ Scope PCI to solve.
Potentially still an issue for future upgraders to Win8.

I wonder why you urgently needed Win8.1 when you can make music ´til the cows come home w/ Win 7 .dante wrote:SOLVED - in a sense that I've further narrowed the issue down to the KB2919355 update.

Reading about these issues alone drives me nuts and holds me back from upgrading my DAW even I cannot use latest installers anymore and being unable updating NI Komplete 7 and Phead Reason 6.5.
I´m still on WinXP,- LOL !
I appreciated Presonus Studio One Pro 2 Win7 / Win8 installer worked the 2nd time updating the previously under WinXP installed application to v2.6.3.
In opposite, it´s a shame I cannot update in NI Komplete 7 included plugins like Kontakt, Absynth, Massive etc.,- even Service Center offers free updates and just only because the updates now come w/ Win 7/8 installers regardless I want updating the plugins to their latest state in Komplete 7 and not upgrading to Komplete 9.

Did I buy Komplete 7 WinXP compatible ? YES !

That said, setting up computers, installing OS and re-istalling all my apps and plugins is the worst case scenario I imagine and try to avoid as long as I can.
It´s the most waisted and unpayed lifetime I can think of.
rant over

Who said anything about urgent ? And I'm not running win8.1 - I downgraded from 8.1 back to 8.Bud Weiser wrote:I wonder why you urgently needed Win8.1 when you can make music ´til the cows come home w/ Win 7 .dante wrote:SOLVED - in a sense that I've further narrowed the issue down .
Bud
This was a brand new DAW, so seems stupid to me the concept of installing win7 just for some cows coming home, especially since ive been running win8 totally successfully for a year on older DAW.
Nothing at all urgent there.
So it's not a matter of 'need' - it's a matter of choice - I choose to keep all OS and software as up to date as possible. In fact it was you who pointed out that we don't need computers at all to make music. Again, a matter of choice, not need.
In this case I'm forced backwards a step by Microsoft but that's a musical decision since I prefer the sound of my DAS plugs to having the very latest OS iteration.
But in doing so, hopefully future upgraders now are forewarned and informed.
Someone has to be at the bleeding edge, and if you're there, no point being half arsed about it.

Nice to hear, that you solved and it works !
I can't remember what i have tried everything, that know i don't see DASCOEFF11.SYS message anymore.
Cause i also remember i have that message before too, but i solved to manage that.
Hm...
It's been 2 years now , working-producing with Win 8.
Win 8.1 works just fine, but yes, i did upgrade from 8 to 8.1 so i was able to uninstall that spring update, which causes me troubles.
Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
Well you did good Fidox. Without you, there's no way in hell I would have known about that KB pack, I would have just assumed something wrong with mobo.
And who knows how many future users of win8 you have saved them from tearing hair in frustration
You didn't give up though -- that's the key !
You are an inspiration man and people like you are one of the reasons this platform will last forever.

Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
it SHOULD complain about the missing sys file when not run as administrator. absolutely.
have you complained to m$?
they might correct this if people complain.

Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
I'll do that -now that it's conclusive. I just need to check Mattomat as well first.
Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
tell them that this update seems to lock out legitimate programs and scripts that you paid for. tell them that security is good, but it's unacceptable if it doesn't allow you to easily override whatever is locking those scripts out of your system. send them a copy of the sys files that have an issue. and send them a screenshot of the error message. tell them that it works correctly if you roll back the update.

Thanks Dante for your kind words !
Well said Garyb !
I'm still thinking what i changed to make disappeared that Das COEF11.sys file message.
I played around security properties for folders and files a lot, maybe that was a key, but still...

Microsoft community -
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 521?page=1
People have a big problems running latest 8.1 version, mostly crashes with explorer and freezes.
Some have different solutions, but some not, cause everyone tried all suggested stuff and for some works and some not.
And at Microsoft all what can said is "scan/repair" system and nothing else and they're posting solutions from other members and not that they should investigate the problem.
If everything has changed after that spring update, then they should investigate that, but probably a lot of users don't have problems and they think that we, with problems have
messed with Win 8.1 and we should scan and repair system
But i mentioned them several times, that i have clean install and i didn't touch anything before all than problems appeared, but still,
create that, scan that, repair that.... bla bla bla
For me personaly, creating new account with that update installed, works nice,
but than , like Dante mentioned, loading Das sys file, causes crashes and freezes (in my case, immediately freeze), button restart only, so , still it was not good for specific tasks.

Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
yeah, i'd do the scan/repair. maybe the update breaks something that the system scan will fix, if their applet is suggested after hearing your report. it's probably worthless, but it get's you to the next tier of support of it doesn't work.
this is a way to lock software out of the system without actually admitting the action, but i doubt that's the case. probably, some engineer though he had a cool security solution but he never expected a script like the one being run by a Scope device. once the programming section finally realizes there's an issue, they'll get around to modifying the program. there must be other apps that have similar issues with this update.

Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
thanks for the heads-up, guys.
i sent a letter to Holger. i don't know if SC can get anything out of M$.
anyway, i wouldn't expect M$ to admit any error, but i'm hopeful that there will be a resolution and an update that will unbreak what ever that KB2919355 has broken. like i said above, there are probably other apps with similar issues.

Ok Ill hold of emailing Microsoft then to avoid double handling. Meanwhile, I have tested Mattomat, its working now too with Scope 'run as administrator' ... as expected.
Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
don't hold off complaining. there's no need for them to pay attention until there are a number of complaints.
Re: sys files - issue on latest Win 8 x64 - CAUSE CONFIRMED
Ok I will send a complaint

I don´t have intention to type a full reply to this post.dante wrote: Who said anything about urgent ? And I'm not running win8.1 - I downgraded from 8.1 back to 8.
I´ll just only let you know I was interested in WHY you want to use Win 8.1 (orWin8,- doesn´t matter ...) over Win7 for a DAW machine.
No concrete answer,- and in your PM you call it a fiasco while it sounds different here in the thread.
thx
