Well, the bundled Vandal device has emulations of famous amps but I think they all do that to some extent. The Vandal (Samplitude)device is really just a couple of amp emulations and seems to be more about the added goodies like virtual stomp pedals, virtual cabs and miking. Which is very similar to Line 6. Vandal is going to be a stand-alone retail offering in the coming days (I think). I'm sure it will have more stuff.
I don't know what, of any of these things is so revolutionary any more but the quality of the sounds has definitely improved over the years. In spite of all that though, nothing beats a real tube amp as far as I'm concerned. I had a guy in recently doing pedal steel through an old Fender Showman (if I remember correctly). The sound was like butter melting on a warm summer day. There is no software in life that comes close.
