Can Scope do a lush pad like this?

A place to talk about whatever Scope music/gear related stuff you want.

you are joking aren`t you?

that toy doens`t sound remotly analog and by far not as good as the andromeda.

Please do yourself a favour and get better speakers or use headphones.
Do yourself a favour and grow some eyes and ears....
The Yamaha CS80 is far more analog than the Alesis Andromeda ....160 lbs more analog....
And the Sonics of the CS80 far exceed any synth.....the 48 Volt circuitry Is a contributing factor to the raw voltage output........and all preset memories are truely analog as they are hardwired to physical controls............

Are you talking about CS-80 or CS-80V? You might argue that the CS-80 is "more analog" (?) than the Andromeda, but the plug-in is dogshit. I don't care what the UI looks like.
you can individualy detune the oscillators in rotation and detune panel 1 and panel 2 from each other....The same is true in the CS80V software...
Can't any synth with 2 LFOs do the first thing, and any synth with 2 oscillators do the second?

scope4live went on a rant once about the CS-80, saying it was the most out of tune, cheeziest piece of crap he ever owned. I have yet to play one, but I've copped the pad sound from Gabriels "In Your Eyes" on my A6 pretty close, I think.

But the synth that I own is better than the synth that you own!

Hence my JD800 is 'more analog'! Er...

This is starting to sound like Analog Heaven btw :D

I was very disappointed with it's inability to cut through the heavy guitar groups I toured with then and it's weight, and it's 6800 USD price tag. But it did cut through in the recordings as a poly synth. On stage next to the B3, Oberheims, and Moog, it was buried. So it had to go. But these groups were so loud the smooth sounds of the Yamaha went nowhere. you had to have FAT BASTARDS. But in the studio it shined rather well for many people, even our mentor Hans Zimmer commented on how surpised he was at the way it sat in certain mixes. The Andromeda and the CS80 aren't even comparible really, they both have two different characters, but are both analog sounding. Yamaha should have made upgrades available but as sales didn't reach the intended target, they tried to recoop w/ the other smaller cheaper versions which fared no better. The ribbon controller was sorely missed though.

Aha, I misquoted. Or maybe I'm thinking of someone else, though I can't think of anyone I could have possibly mistaken you for. :)

Nope it was me remembering how angry I was making payments on it while watching other cats buying the Prophet V, or OB8.

Here's an mp3 of me running through some presets of a Flexor III patch I made..

http://www.expertgear.com/stuff/Modular ... eakmod.mp3

Lush enough for you? ;)
No extra effects used, btw. Simply the Flexor 3 patch played in Modular.

I also use the sound in the end of one of my tracks here:

Cmon,
Smarten up
Nothing cuts through a mix better than a CS80......(if it is set up adequetly),
It is a Sonic Power house that belittles the Prophet 5 and Smokes the Obie>>>
A true test to the CS80 Emulation which I have done is with PolyAT.......
And I will repeat myself here .The CS-V sounds very close especially if you play it with poly AT like the Yamaha was famous for.......
Grab a Kurz. Midiboard off Ebay and try it yourself.......
A yamaha CS80 Cuts through Metal like Thermate.........everything else is all Butter.....

I use the CS80 in a Heavy rock group, Drawbars with 5150 powered Leslies,
Alesis Gak,Roland Gak......Sound men have no problem ever finding a CS80 DI or Leslie level amongst our Marshall GTs ,live drums, and Ampeg SVT basses...
...the sonics are there from low to high and you should feel the CS80 solo between Fleet Street and Open the Gates....coming out of our 15" jbl 4530 cabs with the hpf res tuned just nice...........

we should not mix up cs-80 and CS-80V.

The CS-80V is not 160 lbs ... :)

maybe my fault, I should have written CS-80V instead of CS-80 when quoting you.

Do you think creamware could cook up an ASB Version of this before the A****** Origin is released????

lfo has nothing to do with tuning individual oscillators....the keyboard has eight oscillators that switch when you repeat your note....they can be tuned individually for youre taste.....the second bank has a master detune to tune away from these independent tunings....let me explain
the CS80 has 2 full synth sections with 8 voices that are assigned to footage selectors
Each of these voices has pwm Square wave , sawtooth and white Noise before the filter section.....the filters are awsome btw,,,Low pass with resonance, High pass with resonance, and an EG that bases your ADsR around the main filter....not above or below.....the Sustain level is the HPF and LPF setting....the IL lowers the start point of the attack and end of release point.....the AL raises the point at the end of attack, start of Decay....a beautifully thought out method......These filtered waves now mix with a Sine wave and enter the AMP EG ...ADSR......Filters and amp both have velocity and polyphonic aftertouch level controls
There is a mixer that mixes these "2 synths" together with a further master resonance and filter control....The sub osc and Ring mod affect both after the mixer...........
On the CS80V ver 1.5 and up , you have to click on the word "CS-80V" to the right of the ribbon to acces this somewhat hidden area

creamwhat ??? the company you refer to doesn't exist anymore
Afaik SonicCore's main product is the upcoming Solaris hardware synth
They support the Scope product line (possibly) because they feel related to it's heritage and (probably) because they see a huge potential to extend it, once the main project is on it's way to delivery - synergy effects, so to say... (my own version of the story - in no way official)

I've heard a prototype of the Solaris in Frankfurt under horrible acoustic conditions, but even then it was clear it will be in another league than any A***** stuff.

The Origin is a patchwork of traditional structures (at least that's how I understood it), while the Solaris is one integral piece of synth with no functional restrictions.
My personal estimation is that it will point the musician much more into creative sounddesign while the Origin way will end most likely in '...let's see how it sounds with a Moog filter, ... let's patch this Arp section in, ... how about a Juno chorus... ' etc.

I've NEVER been disappointed by any of John Bowen's devices, but none of the Arturia demos I heard lived up to the company's marketing promises.
Even the CS80V clip (in your link) suffers from heavy aliasing ...

cheers, Tom

So , does the Solaris offer anything to those with poly-pressure(PolyAT) controlers????I would be interested upon that news???
The Origin does use patchwork of traditional modular structures and Origin's own modular structures that you assemble on a grid, but also contains the virtual synths in a non modular form ,....The Cs80V, Moog Modular, ARP 2600, minimoog and Prophet VS......
Image

I understand there are a choice of 80 or so modular blocks to build with on a 36 space grid for each modular preset
Personally I would love to hear a prophet with the CS80 filtersection swapped in, all with polyphonic Aftertouch.......... :)
Even the CS80V clip (in your link) suffers from heavy aliasing ...
I imagine it would suffer from heavy aliasing given it was an mp3 recorded digitally at some unknown ?clock rate? and at how many ?bits?.....I dunno....
but the mp3 example would be at a much lower quality than the hardware version could generate at 24 bit.............with the 2 Sharcs dsp's.....we will check for aliasing at that point.............
John Bowen's synth is one to watch for ...you have got that right

i would rather hear good filters and sound synthesis from John Bowen than from a VSTi-based Arturia creation - i have to say i've found their emulations lacklustre and i don't think their filters are the best. They use marketing bullshit terms like TAE (we're not buying bloody ageing cream with some dodgy 'science' attached Arturia - we're intelligent musicians). i'd rather have good sound than poly aftertouch, but i have asked John if he can fit a ribbon controller on the Solaris - that's more of a deal maker for me.

Incidentally John has clarified a few times that while SC is involved with the Solaris development, it is John's product to market.

Also you can bet SC has more in the works than working on that project alone.

My plan is to buy a Moog Voyager, then add the MOTM CS-80, GX-1 and Prophet 5 rev1 filters later on through modular hookup. That should be a fat bastard indeed.

TAE = Trial And Error :)

there can`t be any technology behind their stuff. ?

If they were building the software technology to secure atomic power plants, I really would try to leave this world. :D

The Andromeda was specced and even documented as responding to poly aftertouch (the kbd itself didn't support it) - but they never got it going before development was shut down

The ION and Micron do support it though, and are very fine VA synths in their own right.

I've got a nice ELKA master keyboard that does genuine poly aftertouch in my collection somewhere - but it's huge (bigger than the andro). For a while I was using this + a Kurzweil ribbon controller + the CS80V for the full CS80 experience....

the ribbon on the Andro is a huge part of what makes it so special - full 12 bit resolution across it's whole length (yeh baby) feeding real analog circuitry beats 7bit VA knobs and sliders any day
