A very good tip indeed. I've always had trouble storing B2003 movements on my KS 88 Pro while it was in drawbar mode. Not that big of a deal in the studio, but live, it was a pain in the arse. Pushing up ( reverse mode ) to restart, and zero out drawbars was the work around. Now wherever the position of the drawbar is, I simply pull it out and use my ears. This was a good tip also, for I managed to put the 3 stops I wanted on one fader of the control surface! Easier than the real B3/C3 drawbars. Life just keeps getting better all the time in the DSP world.

Regarding loading MIDI controller presets, has anybody here noticed that there is no sound after loading a controller preset and to get the sound back you have to load a bunch of instrument presets until one triggers the sound to come back?

Yes, I've noticed this as well. But not always. Sometimes deleting the controller preset and repasting fixes it.
Sometimes the preset name is stuck in the preset window but patches change.
I've seen unexpected midi controllers reception (emission ?)as well. You just load a preset and bam, a * comes next to the preset name... I've yet to find a reproducible pattern.
The temporary fix I use, is by dedicating two buttons for sending a prg change, one for the Midi controller prg, one for my most prefered starter patch. After I select the first, I press the second a few times.

The M Audio Midisport 8 x 8 seems to give me problem free MIDI in standalone mode. I only use USB to power up my controllers. The KS88 Pro, and KS88 ES. I still can't use up all my knobs and sliders yet. Scope/ GS3 Orch. w/ this set-up is a breeze.
