Have you checked out the sample CD that used to come with Pulsar.....there are some good pads on it, and a string program called 'All Strings' which is very good (as long as you take the time to loop all the samples).
Also try using some of the samples in a Modular Sample Osc-based patch....you can get some great results.
favorite synths.

OK, so far I'm NOT yet totally blown away by Wavelength's and Zargmusic's synths - although I can see a lot of possibilities there. I just don't have TIME to create patches - been doing it for 25 years now.
Still going to check out other synths/modulars, but so far Atmospheres is enticing.

Something you should realize about Atmosphere. It isn't doing any synthesis, its a ROMpler.
I do own & use it, but realize that the samples that it uses are just longish static samples taken from various pieces of gear (full list on their site or in the readme) and the interface allows you to layer the two voices (sample layers) with different envelopes and 4 modulation destinations per voice. Typically my usage is for supporting atmospherics/pads, and not as the main pad itself (ie, layered with a creamware or outboard synth).
Overall its not a bad product but it would have been nicer to have as a 4Gb sampleset instead of in rompler format. Perhaps as an alternative you might consider a regular sample library for exs24/halion/kontakt/giga/sts.

Well all things being equal the tradeoff in ram usage (if its not disk streaming) and disk install size is made up by lesser cpu usage. This is actually why I use atmosphere occasionally, when I want a lush chord pad in the background but I have used my other outboard synths for other parts already. The samples themselves are great but for stuff more up front in the mix I prefer a better mod matrix and better filters. For the record I'm not a huge fan of Kontakt's filters either (they're kind of grainy sounding along with its sampler algorithms).
I see what you mean
but don't forget that the most important thing with the Atmosphere is a fast access to many many great sounding pads of different styles and character.
Unless your computer needs an update
The filters, panning options etc.that it offers are perfect to fit the sounds to the song, in seconds. Try that with the Absynth, even with the instant controlles on the GUI
( I have the Ab. and I love it
).
I really think it's the combination of quality of sounds, fastness and quantity that makes the synth great
So I'd vote for the Atmosphere

It's one of James Walker Hall's commercial ensembles from his own site (not the user library) - it's only 15 euro's and well worth it.

check out the freeby 3X too - both are among the best synths I've played.
