Let's look back on your statement "That's all anyone needs" 5 years from now.

I once had a friend tell me that he would never need more than 4 gigs of hard drive storage and this was from a a major geek. I think it is foolish to predict what future needs will be. We will probably use 96 KHZ on every track of 100 tracks of audio. Unlike most people, I do not buy a new computer every other year. I would like to stay a little ahead of the curve for this reason. I was happy to finally get my SC cards stable at 30 ms latency! People shouldn't have to fuck with things for hours or days or years to get them to work.

Also for anyone who wants to become more mobile, the 34mm PCI-e connector is what Soniccore chose to use. The 54mm size had stability issues.
Recent trends in laptop designs from Lenovo and Sager are using a larger port for 2 x external connectors.
ManPro guys that are doing lots of sample streaming can now have 4 x external eSATA HDD's of the 10k Raptor flavor, or any 2.5/3.5 HDD for that matter, and the second connector for an XITE-1 or UAD.
Soniccore XITE-1 w/ a Nehalem i7 MacPro, which will be out by summer, is as powerful as many Project studios using slaves and G5's.
Lots of Mac guys are going to be very interested in this as they already are foaming about the UAD laptop choice shown at NAMM.
The price difference between those 2 are nice options. The UAD will go to guys that want a slightly cheaper DSP solution, and the synth guys will love XITE-1 as they can surely remove dozens of VST synths and keep the most vital.
That is an extremely powerful mobile recording studio or entire live performance solution.

I was only thinking about the PCIe slots on motherboards. I was not thinking of laptom compatibility. I stand corrected in that respect. It would be a shame if by the time this thing finally came out the slot for it was obsolete!

As for the speed thing, I understand where you are coming from but the fact is that if if you are working at 96k the setup above would still work fine. Do the math. I keep referring to uad but this is only due to the fact that they are very clear about how many of what can run on there cards. If you had four quad cards setup on that computer you can run 128 mono or 84 stereo Neve channel strips at 44.1. Lets say that when you go to 96k you divide your instance count by 65% That would give you 44.8 mono instances and 29 stereo instances. OK so lets x that by four. That makes for 179.2 mono instances and 117.6 stereo instances. OK so if you used say only 100 mono channels that leaves you with almost half of your system free for what ever you may need. Sure it is expensive but it is simple to do now. I am not saying that you will never be upgrading and so on but with that system you would not have to upgrade for power reasons for lets say the next ten years at least as we are no where near going to 96-24 for consumer media.

I am sure you will find flaws in my point of view. The bottom line for me is that I never work with more than 32 stereo channels in a mix and even if I decided that there was advantage to going to 96k I could do so with out that much effort. It is fast enough for ME.

It's all good Brosky,
Just some more specs I forgot to mention.
BTW, these guys including JBowen had never seen me before and I was all prepared to ask the stupidest questions just to mess with 'em, and I got bushwacked !!
They knew it was me because they read this forum, and saw the thread where some of were thinking of silly questions to torture them with.
I even had my Badge turned around.......
