is it a crash or a freeze? i am not familiar with that motherboard, what chipset does it have? do you have a manufacturer's link? does it help to plug in the midi keyboard after starting the computer?
there are a few things that will cause a freeze with midi, especially with cubase. mostly it is a feedback loop that you want to avoid. crashes are usually caused by a hardware problem(memory, graphic card or motherboard).
maybe you could give more details as to exactly what steps you take in having the problem, exactly what hardware you are using and a list of all the irqs...

Get a Mac. I have tried and tried with PCs and Pulsar. I am having the exact same problem and this is my 4th PC I'm trying it with. Don't get me wrong there's nothing more I want than to get my system working properly (because the product is very good if you can get it working)but I'm running out of options. I also have a Protools system running on Mac and it is faultless, no worrying about system conflicts, irqs, what slot it's in etc.
macs have top quality hardware. the possibilities are limited by apple(as to hardware combinations)for better and worse. they are a little simpler to operate but they cost a lot more. a pc with the right, good quality parts is nearly as turnkey as a mac and it is as stable. when a pc doesn't work, the reason is usually straightforward, even if it seems a little crazy to suss out.
i can honestly say thay the last 3 computers i built were almost completely turnkey. windows is a much more ambitious thing than mac os9. i'm sure that fact makes os9 much easier to work with and much less of a strain to the system. most of the tweaking involves removing that excess baggage from windows. mac users can calm down though. osx will eventually put them in the same boat as pc users....
if the hardware is not broken, most pcs will run well, but one does have to be patient and know that performance will be less if one has a less than optimal motherboard. often the difference in price between a cheap, bullshit motherbaord and a good one is $0. this causes confusion sometimes...
i'm sure this machine can be made useful with the proper information.

I agree GaryB, and buying a mac is no solution to having some initial problems with a pc... Step one in setting up a DAW could involve the choice between PC and Mac, but when that choice is made (it obviously is, in this case) buying a mac is no solution. (but a way of launching another Mac vs. PC discussion)
I will not enter such discussion. (oops, I think I just did
)
Cheers,
Rob

mac works: hardware + system software = 1
pc is 'modular', so more risky.
It's a choice
I hope some spontanious promoting of Mac like Labman did (based on own experience), will be allowed.
Many pc adapts don't know the alternative and think macs are something weird and unreasonable expensive.
In fact it's mobo talk, after all, and you like that

Well, I'm not getting into the Mac/Pc debate.....what about a bit of lateral thinking ? - check your Scope project is set up correctly for a start - are you experienced with Scope (sorry to ask, but if you've got any sort of feedback loop - audio or midi it could bring your system down).
You should certainly have enough PC power to work well....give us more details and we should start getting somewhere.
