Small 'squealing' noise comming from computer!

This may not be a Pulsar problem but then again it may just be so... Mostly when my computer is idle, my computer is giving off a high-pitched squealing noise. I have inside my computer...

Pulsar II
SB Audigy 2 Plat Pro
Ati Radeon 9700
2.8ghz 533mhz
1.5gb RAM
2 HDs

the squeling is getting on my nerves, has anyone else experienced similar?
It is not squealing all the time, and often stops for a few seconds if I do some simple things like moving a browser window...

Does the sound come from your speakers? Perhaps it's monitor (screen) - 2 options come to my mind - first is the sound comes from the monitor's high voltage generator; the second idea is the monitor stands too close to your computer.

Its not the monitor (LCD) or the speakers (shielded), I have tried turning them both off and the sound continues. I am to fit a few extra case fans so will be able to listen carefully to where the sound is coming from (if i can tell). I have recently changed my graphics card, which may be the source of the noise. I have also just discovered that I am using 2 different speeds of RAM, which isn't a good idea - i have also noted that the noise can change while RAM- checking.

I once bought a new hard drive that turned out to be defective or failing. The sound was just about like audio feedback. Like with a mike too close to a speaker.

Hmmm. I may be on a loser here... after taking my case apart (it was wAY to hot in there, lucky I have some fans coming) I found that it was my first HD that is making that sound...

Any suggestions?

That's what i am thinking... I read that once they start to squeal you are fucked sooner or later. I also read that WD drives tend to sqeual anyway, but I had never noticed the noise before so I am assuming the worst. I have back up the important stuff (all audio and projects were already on another drive).
Anyone got any suggestions what sort of drive I should get?
Don't want SCSI due to effort and the heat, perhaps SATA but I don't know much about SATA drives. Can I boot from an SATA drive if I use a SATA controller card?

just get an ide drive unless you have integrated sata. you don't want a sata card taking pci bamdwidth any more than you want a scsi drive taking it.

an ide drive will work just fine.
