Subject: how to ...

1. take a stereo track, from which you are sure, that it is in phase. be sure to listen and to measure what comes OUT of the mixing board. if you have a corelation meter or a goniometer you can check by watching it, if it´s in phase. in a corelation meter the signal is supposed to stay on the right side of the meter. if the signal goes to the left side (-1), that means it's out of phase. next is you push the mono button of your mixing board. the corelation meter is now supposed to go on the full right side (1). try to switch some times between mono and stereo. the sound spectrum shouldn´t change!!! if the sound is differing (like loosing highs or mids or even complete instruments disapear when you push mono), that would be the way to check it with your ears.

2. if this test went o.k., that means that the channel in it self is o.k.. now you should compare the other channels to each other. take the same stereo track and route it from the SAME source to all channels of your mixing board (be sure to turn the channel faders at least to -6dB, so you don't cause any distortion or clips). now listen to one stereo channel (concentrate on the sound spectrum) and then you open the second. again, the sound shouldn't change. it only should become louder now without loosing highs or mids etc.. now open one more channel and so on till you opened all channels. still the sound shouldn't change, it should only become louder with every channel you open more.

good luck, i'm looking forward to hear from you, mr. anonymus
