Uses a bunch of mod patches,
hummel bluesynth for bass and chords.
Made entirely with CW synths.

Upon second listen I am really getting an Isao Tomita vibe, only played much better and recorded perfectly.

do you think that the types of sounds in traditional japanese music really lend themselves to modern electronic music? 'cause i really hear that. i think a piece like that sounds right in any period....

interesting notion gary. I think it's definitely true for taiko drums. As you may know, taiko drum pieces are made only of short long, strong weak timbre variances. I think this tune uses some of those colors. Also, since Japanese traditional music is very minimal in terms of melody, it's probably why it has links to electronica. (lots to do with timbre) So you get lots of note repetitions and phrase looping and such.

Not that I had it mind while I wrote it tho. This tune was sort of a spontaneous thing.

also, the vocals are often interesting in timbre and expression, kinda like synth textures...

Interesting. I like the percussion programming. Not so sure about the main synth sound. Generally this piece has a quirky quality that is nice. It might work well with film.

LOL!!! I totally agree. I'm a huge Tomita fan. Sounds Like the results of night on the town with Tomita & Plaid. Someone must have spiked the shochu... Love it Ken!
