Just wondering what it means, a '4-pole filter' or '2-pole filter'? (The 'pole' bit).

It is an indication of the steepness of the filter slope. The higher the number the steeper the slope.

I stand to be corrected, but I think 2 pole is a 6dB/octave slope and 4 pole is 12dB/octave.

All good synths should have this as a selectable option IMHO.

(edit) should have read the article first before answering...I was close, sort of.

I believe you need to double those numbers:

2-pole = 12 dB
4-pole = 24 dB
8-pole = 48 dB

Only if the tent poles all occupy the same place in the Laplace Transform domain graph, else you get portions of the frequency response graph with different degrees of slope [=head explodes=]

well, doesn't matter what sorta tent you want to build, but all I know is that my pole is bigger than yours. LOL
