What's the difference between Logic Audio's Enveloper plugin and the SPL Transient designer. In theory they do the same thing.
Anyone ever compare the two of them?
If so which is better? And who developed it first?
Spl Transient Designer
Subject: Re: Spl Transient Designer
Transient and the envolpe follower are 2 different things
The SPL is kinda magic the way it works as it *ONLY* effects the Transients not the whole signal.not the whole signal on Drums and Snares nothing comes close except the hardware version which is 700UK pounds last time I saw 1400US abouts

Are we talking about the same thing?
The Logic Enveloper increases or decreases the attack of a signal.Italso does the same to the release portion of a sound.
The Spl Trasient Designer does the same.
Have you used the Logic Envelpoer? You should go to the Emagic website and read about it.
It is not a envelope follower it's described as the same device as the Spl Transient Designer.
I have Logic 4.6.1 and I used the Enveloper and it did exactly what the Spl decsribed

The transient designer has nothing to do with envelopes. Enveloper is like rising a slider in your mixing console for the attacks and the lowering it in the sustain part. The transient designer is more like an opposite for a compressor. It sort of uncompresses the signal so that the attacks get more dynamic. And compressor has absolutely nothing to do with the mixing console example.

hi all,
no trobles please!
))
so, i know about the problem of comparing this two possibilities (enveloper and transient d.). so, i´m interested in the differences they may take... so i will compare this two thing while me and freinds of mine are working with both... so, normally it should be a difference while the enveloper is something like a mixture of compressing and expanding on one thing- the transient designer is doing something like this but also a difference, because he should also push the attack but can handle the release like a syhnthesis is doing.... hmmm, difficult to explain in my english, so: i will try to compare this two things during this week and will report as quick as possible...

Can't help you much with this, I'm afraid, as I haven't used the SPL Transient Designer. I will say, though, that I have used the Logic Audio Enveloper and it works well. In fact it seems to me that the all the Logic Plug-ins are generally of high quality (except, perhaps not surprisingly, the reverbs).

I love the SPL TD! I use Logic, and never noticed the Enveloper. I just compared the 2. They do a lot of the same thing, with some differences... The attack and release times on the Enveloper are variable. This makes it more flexible. The TD has an overall sustain level, which the Enveloper does not. As far as sound, I like them both. The TD seems to have a bit more "grit". This is cool to "rough up" a track. The sustain level adds to that. The Enveloper has a bit more clarity...and having the variable times can give a lot of smack to drums.
Of course the SPL TD has to be used in Pulsar/Scope, and the Enveloper in Logic. Hmmmm....tough choice! I'm glad I have the SPL TD, because I use Cool Edit or Samplitude for strictly audio projects.
