Aftertouch, Keyboard Controllers, and usable cc's

I've been shopping for a new Keyboard controller. I had to sell my K2500XS to help aid in my moving to a new apartment. Soon I get my deposit back.

My mind has been divided between a Yamaha P60 and the M-Audio Keystation 88. So far I'm leaning towards the P60, but I noticed something about both models. Neither of them have any aftertouch. Now this isn't SUPER critical, but I wanted to get some thoughts from people on how they would overcome this limitation.

My initial thought is to just use a Continuous Controller Pedal and have that control the aftertouch. But is there some other clever way to do this? Any CW tools which I could put to this?

Lastly, I've been getting really irritated in having only a small fraction of cc's available out of the 128, but it occured to me that I didn't really know which ones I could dispense with.

I know that cc's 1 and 2, 64, and a few others aren't worth messing with, but beyond that I don't know what will or won't make my life more complicated.

I've looked around on the web and in various midi resources, but all that are really mentioned are the little pockets of General Midi cc's and unused cc's which are what I've been utilizing all this time.

I'm thinking about dedicating one of the 8 Midi blocks to Cubase and using separate ones for everything else, so sequencer needs aren't really an issue.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hoi Samuel,

As taken from one of my posts, following CC# are a little special:

CC# 0,32: bank select & program change,
CC# 1: modulation, is reset (read set to 0) on midi Stop
CC# 6: MSB (it's LSB will be in CC# 32-63 but 33-63 is perfectly useable for fader remote)
CC# 98-99: Non-Registered Parameter Number (NRPN) LSB-MSB
CC# 100-101: Registered Parameter Number (NRPN) LSB-MSB
CC# 121-127: Reserved for Channel Mode messages.

M-Audio keyboards have a utility fader that you can assign aftertouch to.
