Is there a way that Mac users can use the program WaveZIP to un/compress wave files?
This would reduce the filesize enormous.

Spoimala, to reduce your traffic per month it would be better if Stige will send me the sample CD, too. If Stige has a fast connection I can give him the ftp adress to my server, so he can upload the files directly.

Anyway, I´m away from tomorrow till Sunday evening. It would be deadly to post a direct download link here. So, I think it would be best that everybody who wants the download link should PM me and I will return you the ftp adress. I will offer the adress to maybe two or three people at once only, to reduce the traffic.
Once you´ve download the samples you should PM me again, so I can offer the adress to the next.

cheers

Ah, I forgot that the samples are in 24bit, forget the WaveZIP. If I remember right the free version of WaveZIP handles 16bit files, only.

Hi all

There are some good suggestions going on how everyone could get the samples easily. I'd like to comment on few things.

Bittorrent: could be a good alternative, but requires lots of arrangements. I've never used it, as I decided to keep p2p stuff out of my pc, but of course this wouldn't be any 'dark' file sharing.

Another thing I'd like to speak is, how can we limit the d/l of the samples mainly for planetz/pulsar users? I won't deny others to use these kits, but may it be at least a bit harder for them, lol

Spreading a CD: This is a good idea, as long as nobody makes any personal profit. Making these samples didn't cost me money this time. Only took my time and efforts.
At the expense of cd and postage, sending the cd is fine.

Spoimala's bandwidth limit is a bummer. I'm glad Chris can help us providing a hosting service as well.

oh, thanks for kind comments about the test song, quickly done and lots to fix, but demonstrates the kit (non ambient). I used only STM2448 built in compressor for the drums, no eq fix up.

cheers

Three approaches spring to mind:

1. Use an ftp server w/ a password

2. Use a password protected web-page (slightly trickier to set-up, but I can help with the HTML if need be)

3. Spread the eventual URL/location of the files privately, (whether requested of you, or given out by you to e.g. members of the forum)

Neither of there prevent other people getting access to these files... But it wasn't primary concern.

My ISP doesn't give me FTP server rights
But I can have password protected directory for files.
The third option seems the easiest, though.

Right now I'm in the process of getting enough capacity for my site... I guess it isn't a big problem.

Who makes me best offer to get access to these files

Maybe also a good idea to take the samples down after the initial surge of downloads? I don't know how onerous it would be to respond to individual requests but it would certainly restrict the audience if the only way to request a download was via private mail here at PlanetZ.

Stige: my offer stands, I'd be happy to pay you $10 for a CD; or if you're cool with GaryB distributing (a fantastic idea IMHO) I'd be happy to order from him too.

At $5 a pop I doubt GaryB's going to be making any money. Nevertheless, maybe if there turns out to be a substantial surplus, it could be donated to either Stige or PlanetZ? Just a thought...

Well, if he's willing to take only $5.00 then let's make it $10.00 and donate the $5.00 profit with a split: $2.50 to Stige and $2.50 to PlanetZ! or if Stige has an aversion to moeny we can put it all toward PlanetZ...

Maybe we are on to something here, anyone else have the energy and time to create a sample library?

Sorry guys.., but it seems to me you are going too far with this.. I mean.., the samples were offered with a non profit spirit and the full benefit of the whole Scope Planet Z community.., I think is up to Stige to decide and not being "leaded" to "charge", if he decides to charge everyone.. that's ok with me. Besides you all must consider not everyone on this forum is able to electronically pay those $5 or $10 or any other amount, specially since severe financial restrictions imposed by US authorities to avoid any terrorist financing. I understand most people feel stige should be rewarded.. but It seems that should be left to his own consideration Or other people's that CAN actually reward him.

?!?

I was only proposing to Stige an alternative distribution method, since there are obviously bandwidth limitations on our generous FTP hosters.

If I went too far then fine, Stige can say "no". I don't see what this has to do with funding terrorists.

BlazesBoylan.

No word I said points out about ANY person on this forum financing illegal activities.., you should see that clear. You should be aware that since 9/11 non US-Canada credit card holders overseas can't use their cards for internet payment sites nor internet stores because they have been asked to refuse these users. Your CD Idea is a good one.., as you said , as an alternative distribution method, I apologize if my words were not clear enough.., is not my intemption to antagonize.

ahhh, don't offer me money as I'm saving for SPL Attacer and meanwhile eating my nails

Seriously speaking, no money will be charged for these drumkits at any case. It is ok for everyone to send cd discs eachother, and if this method cause any postage expenses, you are free to agree about them personally.
Donating for planet z would be great. I'd do it personally, if I were charging about the samples/expenses. But I intented this collection to be free and international payment is always difficult to arrange/use. I'm happy if you find these drumkits usable in your music, and that is enough reward for me.

Bandwidth issue is looking better again. Along with Spoimala and Chris, I've got email, another offer more to host the samples. We will be letting you know about the d/l arrangements when hosts are ready.

I have a better way of looking at this.

If we benefit from Stige's hard work it is only because we are members of PlanetZ, otherwise we wouldn't know about it, would we?

Therefore if anyone benefits from obtaining this library of sounds then they should remember how they got them. If they feel that PlanetZ deserves support for offering this forum in the first place then they have probably already contributed. If not, and they now realize the bnefits of membership, then they should try to send some money PlanetZ's way.

Now let's all kiss and make up!

I think Stige is admirable for avoiding the lure of payment.

I'd be happy to make clones of the CD and distrubute them if asked to do so.
