Are there any Mackie owners that have had this happen to them? I mean, one day without a spark, pop, fall, or smoking notice...one of my Mackie 624 speaker just quit working. I was totally puzzled because the other one is still working find. I've had them go out before because I have to admit that I was pushing them a tab bit to hard for just being nearfields. When this happened before I just turned the speakers off for awhile. After about 5 to 10 minutes of them being off. I turned them back on and BAM! There they were back on again playing as if nothing ever happened. However, this time one quit working all together. I followed the troubleshooting procedure in the attempt to correct the problem. Still, it didn't work. So, my question is....Do these monitors have fuses? Since they have amps on them I figure they do but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me?

they probably have fuses, but getting at them might void warranties. there might be a fuse right where the cord attaches, but it's possible that they only have circuit breakers.i hope that they aren't broken. unfortunately, nearfields don't respond well to being "pushed".

A normal passive speaker usually consists of a crossover, which has a capacitor, resistor, inductor and usually some form of protection lamp.
I know this to be true for the JBL Control 5's. As I have had to replace lamps and crossovers for them.

In your case you have an active speaker, so it may have a seperate amplifier and crossover or both will be integrated onto the same circuit.
The amplifier circuitry will almost certainly have some form of protection fuse, for safety reasons alone.

The trouble is taking certain speakers apart without doing damage to them, (cosmetic damage mainly.)

The fuses may be user serviceable. If you have a warranty to want to hold on to you'll need to return it to a dealer. If not investigate. But bear in mind that if you do a bodged repair, a lot of repair places may refuse to look at it.

You probably overheated your speakers the first time. As they go into cut off if they go into thermal overload. However the second time you must have blew something.

So the 624 is totally dead? I.E. no sound from both the HF and LF drivers? These monitors may have protection that shuts down the amps when a fault is detected (blown output devices, shorted drivers etc). Probably one of the first things I would do is gently press the LF driver with fingers and listen for any scratching sounds which would indicate a definite problem with the LF driver that could cause the amp to shutdown (Mackies use common garden Vifa drivers that are readily available and cheap). You won't be able to do this with the HF unit.
Most of the time if a fuse blows or a protection ciruit trips, there is a reason. A speaker can go open circuit or short circuit. If it shorts, then that could trip the protection circuit.
It may not be the speakers though, maybe the amps themselves have developed a fault.
If it was me, being a technical geek type, I would be pulling the unit apart, disconnecting the drivers and hooking up the amps to cheap test speakers, hooking up the Hr drivers to a known good amp to test, etc etc, etc....
