Hi all !

i hope i can explain enough to understand,
i understand how to record knob movements into the sequencer (in my case cubase), but i still don't have enough experiences with understanding midi
when i record for example ;
cutoff knob from 24-46, but then, when i listen to this sequence (enabling loop) i hear that at the beginning of this sequence there's still cutoff knob on 46 and then jumps down to 24 and further to 46,
but what i want is that at the beginning cutoff knob is on 24 and at the end 46 and when i copy or loop this sequence again the same,
what should i do ?
should i try something different or should i try to record knob movement at the end when the song is done ?

hope i was understandable

have all nice time

hi,

It's common practice to program a CC# preferably before the first note in a loop, to reset the CC# to it's value as it should be when entering the loop. Or check if your sequencer can automatically send the CC# as it should be when cycling or jumping to another position.

Occasionally, like in the pre-run for a song, you can program a bank & program select message, to reload the device's preset. Some sequencers don't require such an event on a track, they'll take it from the track's properties on start. Just make sure you have a good insight in what's being sent when, and things will run smooth. Tricky part here is that all sequencers apply these parameters slightly different.

Hope this helps,

at0m.

yes, that's exactly what i was thinking of,
i have tried different ways and i have notice that, when i move knob right away when recording it's better then while looping,

i'll keep trying

btw; did you ever tried to use 909-808 groover (modIII) like your drum machine , using with sequencer ? i have read some explanation, but i can't get right sync between seq and groover, shame that there's no sfp sequencer, that would be really awsome

thanks

There are modular sequencers that come with Mod II/III and I would also recommend looking at FleXor for the excellent ones it offers.

ok, i have modIII and flexor too, can i use those sequencers also for use with hardware synths ?
i'm using cubase, and all i want now is to use that drum machine from modIII, while i can also load samples,
i need some time to learn sfp platform, i'm more from old school, hardware synths + cubase, mainly midi

Remember CC stands for continuous controller...any changes made will remain UNTIL a new message is received.....CC displays in progs like Cubase tend to show the last state eg. if you put a CC at bar 1, say Ctrl 74, value 50, you will still see the display showing 50 at bar 8, 64, whatever, until you input a new message....it doesn't mean (necessarily) that it's going to output that data.
For this you need to enable chase events for CCs.
ie. put a new CC at the beginning of your loop at the value you want....
Sometimes it's easiest just to pencil CCs in by hand in your edit page.

Is it possible to send a snapshot of all panel settings to your sequencer to record at the very begining of a song? That would make it much easier than having to enter it manually.

Any knob that's moved sends out the CC# assigned to it, right? Now this also goes when you select a preset. Any knob moved by the preset and having a CC# assigned to it, will transmit that CC#.

I hope this is what you mean

With Cubase enable "Chase Events".
When you do this and you press zero to return to the start of your song, or 1 to return to the left locator, Cubase will look at the "state of play" of all controllers etc at that point.
Here's a tip.
Start your songs at bar 3.
In bars 1 and 2 create a blank part.
Go into List Edit mode and pencil in any program changes and inital controller codes that you require (Volume, Pan position etc)
Pencil them in at 16th intervals as an example.
Do the same for all midi tracks and try to offset each pencilled command a little, just in case midi chokes (rarely happens nowadays).

If you want to record your controller movements create another track of the same midi channel and record your dial/mouse movements into this (easier to edit) - the other option being to go into normal Edit mode, click the button in the bottom left of the editor and then draw in all the controller codes you require.

Whether you record as you play or when the track is done is personal choice. You'll probably edit some of these controller values (Cut offs etc) anyway once the other instruments are in the mix.

Good luck

BTW - I too am from the old school of hardware synths, midi and Cubase (old version)and find my biggest problem is getting my head around the audio side and learning about effects etc. I would say though that an understanding of Cubase from your old school days should make this jump very easy indeed.
If you are still having problems, feel free to email my (unless you pc is full of viruses  )
