OK, a major U-turn
I decided to install XP again in Standard PC mode.....it is now running absolutely as it should: Pulsar 2, SRB and UAD-1 all working hand in hand. [I found ,after all that ACPI mode was not the Holy Grail, and is much more prone to glitching/crackling etc....bit disappointing because of course, you can't use Hyperthreading in Std PC mode, but as Scope is the heart of my system, I have to prioritize it.]
The MOST IMPORTANT factor seems to have been updating the Chipset Inf.[EDIT: I must add, IF you need to do this,it MUST be done before installing any hardware drivers....best done immediately after a fresh OS install, and with no peripherals attached too, in order to prevent Windows from automatically trying to install hardware in the middle of the BIOS update]
I couldn't believe it when I saw this was not installed (by loading the Mobo CD that came in the box)....you see I bought this thing from a 'reputable' music shop (naming no names erDIG er ITAL Village or something), believing it to be totally set up for music, and I have gone through sooo many tweaks to get the damn thing settled....Bloody shops eh? (I knew something wasn't right when I told the guy I was into Creamware stuff, and he said 'Oh I don't like them...over-complicated & unstable').
Anyway, I've finally come out the other side, with what I set out to get in the first place...the Dog's bo**ox... :grin:

A few key steps were:
Disabling Graphics Acceleration and write-combining;
Setting PCI latency to 64;
Various tweaks found at pcaudiolabs.com ;
Disabling unneeded services;
Ignoring bozo shop attendants when they slag Creamware off,
And MOST IMPORTANTLY, Being a member of the coolest forum on earth...that being the mighty Z.
Thanks to all you guys, this place sure is a wealth of knowledge. :cool:

Hi Plato
Some nice tips.

I helped a friend buy a DAW and he purchased it from the same place as you (different branch)and had real problems with the PC and the shop. In the end he rang their head office and after about a month they exchanged it. The same shop told me that CW products were not very good! The shop seems to push certain products, whether that is because the manufacturers/distributers are well organised or for finacial reasons I'm not sure..... probably a bit of both.
Cheers
