recording question
hey guys. I need some suggestions on how to recored my final mix. I'm runnnig Cubase SX under SFP (no XTC). Cubase output BUS1 is connected to a couple of mastering plugins in SFP and then goes out to my analog out.
How would you re-route the audio out so you could record the final mix and monitor?
Is it a good idea to send the audio to SoundForge for recording (can I do that?), or just route it to an input bus back into Cubase ?

You could send it to a wave destination module to send it to programs like SoundForge, Cool Edit, Wavelab which is what I normally do or you could route it back through ASIO Dest back into seperate tracks in Cubase SX or you could send it out via ADAT or Analog or SPDIF out to a hardware recorder. Send it where ever you like. 

mmm... i got crackles in SoundForge while recording.. seems like latency is too low. What's your latency setting when you record ?

since you've mastered the track in SFP there's no need to 'monitor' the .wav data in Soundforge (in case you have this function on).
If the crackles appear without audio output in Soundforge, then there might be conflicts in disc access between the 2 apps.
I'd prefer the master data as a separate stereo track routed back into Cubase, for simplicity and resoure efficiency.

What I usually do is route the final mix into Cubase (e.g. from the output of the mastering plugins/the mixer), monitor the Cubase track that's recording the mix and send that out on an unused ASIO bus - in SFP I then route that bus to the analogue outs.
Needs a ittle bit of re-wiring and it's perhaps not the most elegant solution, but it works for me!

in a hurry:
STM 24/48, check the Bus page, very easy, and you can use the faders for extra volume to Cubase recording, this way leaving the volume/sends ratio in Cubase intact!
The mastermix-out of the mixer is connected to the analogue out of the Pulsar, just for monitoring.
The same mix-out is connected to ASIO1/2--->Cubase-ASIO-In1/2.
Handy for fast mixdown at the end of the day, to nail the day result.
Bus1/2 (eventualy 3/4 etc) is hooked up to ASIO3/4--->Cubase-ASIO-In 3/4 (ev. 5/6 etc) etc), for bouncing aims.
No mess this way in your project or Cubase, instand bouncing or mixing down just by activating the right ASIO ch. and in SFP a channel to the right bus!
