'what motherboard should I get', it keeps beeing an unbelievable question to me.
Scary it is, I can't dig it, everytime again I think: oh my god, don't...
Why built a car if you wanne drive a car?
Anyway, I'm just expressing my personal feelings and anxiousness, I'm honestly not looking for argueing

Just to have said it: Getcarty, from the way you ask this motherquestion I understand that you're not very experienced with building a music suited pc.
( I made music for several years on mac before I learned here on planetz what a motherboard is...).
At least THINK about buying say a 2nd hand G4/733 mac, and see how it works for you (it's just like W-XP hehe).

Don't worry about the problems with the new mac G5, OS-X can wait coz Creamware will not be ready for it soon I guess.

from my heart

I don't really understand what you're trying to say here. Are you saying he should buy a Mac? Well, that's a valid suggestion but it's not really what he's asking now is it?
And it's not an unbelievable question at all. I know how to build a (music) PC but I don't keep tracks of all the latest technological developments and brandnames so whenever I start another upgrade project, I come to the Z for some advice

That used to be my opinion, garyb, but I'm just in the process of returning an Intel D875PBZ board to exchange it for an Asus P4C800e. The Intel board has too limited bios options, and consequently I can't set the required voltage (2.6) for my 400 mhz DDR ram to operate properly. I've been testing this board for weeks without success, many crashes, program shut downs, weird disk errors - all related to my matched 2x512 PC3200 DDR Ram. I know this because if I swap the ram for a single stick of generic ram the problems disappear.
According to Kingston (and Crucial too) this ram needs a voltage boost of +.1v, which Asus and Gigabyte board bios allow, but not Intel.
There's other annoyances with the limited Intel bios - I don't think they're a good manufacturer for users who need to control PCI bus activity and IRQ assignments such as multi-board Scopers do.

But mainly, my ram, which cost more than the motherboard, requires me to find a board that will allow it to run at full speed.

So goodbye Intel, hello another new system installation.

KoS, the question is SO essential and important, specially the answer to it

Now see what happens here: two nice answers, two different opinions, and many will follow.
Poor Getcarty...

At least I wanted to give him an alternative, which often is overlooked coz Windows rules.
So, I wasn't saying mac is better than pc, but rather if you want to be sure about your hardware (including the motherboard) you could consider buying a mac.
cheerz
