Hello to all! :smile:

Since all hardware reverbs are digital machines too (like our PCs), I was wondering why they just sound SO much better than their software counterparts?
Is it because their hardware is much more powerful? Or is it just better programming/knowledge?
If it is the first case... Then dont forget that except our general purpose Intel or AMD CPUs, WE have our audio-specific sharc DSPs! If it is the 2nd case, which I think it is the most likely, I still believe that there are a lot of excellent programmers out there. I think that Lexicon, TC and the likes dont have the best programmers... they just know more on Acoustics.
I think if a good programmer and a good acoustics physician sat together, they could produce an excellent reverb device that could compete very good with the best hardware devices.
I would really love to see a Reverb Device of excellent quality for the SFP platform, no matter how DSP heavy it was (4-5-6 or even 10 DSPs). If it was the same good as the lexicon ones, I would not mind bouncing tracks one by one, to get the a really good reverbed sound.

That is my dream/request/wish, take it as you like....

PS. Which is supposed to be the best reverb device at the moment for SFP?

I don't know much about this, but I believe that a really good reverb needs a lot of memory - something which our CW-cards doesn't have.

Maybe you should check out SIR - it's a convulution/impulse reverb typethingy. Last time I checked it out, it was free....

Well, Pulsar will have as much memory as it needs as soon as it supports PCI-X. But it doesn't, so right now the best reverb is (IMO, I haven't tried Masterverb Pro) is the Timeworks reverb. There really aren't too many choices, however. :smile:

I really like the Lexicon reverb that comes with Sonar, but it's only available for Sonar.

Hi,

Its definitely a question about algorithm design (knowledge) and memory bandwidth. A new reverb series will be released for the SFP platform very soon.

The first reverb will be the Plate algorithm and right after that, the Ambience algorithm.

<IMG SRC="http://www.relab.dk/Main.jpg">
<IMG SRC="http://www.relab.dk/Algo.jpg">
<IMG SRC="http://www.relab.dk/Reverb.jpg">

They're very demanding regarding PCI/DSP resources. You'll be able to load 1-2 instances of the reverb on a Pulsar2/Scope2 board, depending on what else you have on the PCI buss (eg network card) and chipsets.

Cheers

That's perfectly right: the EarlyFirst reverbs use only SFP stock atoms (according to Paul), but obviously in a very smart way.
They may not hit everyone's taste, but were generally considered as top quality stuff.

Unfortunately Paul seems to be involved in a bunch of other demanding activities which leave him little time for developement, so it's extremely nice to see someone filling the gap, or even pushing the standard :smile:finally the magic 'L' will work :grin:

cheers, Tom

Hey,

The 'Mod' page have change to 'Setup' and includes a less PCI/DSP intensive algorithm and diffenrent diffusion types.

It will hopefully be released very soon.

Cheers

Hey Canonball,

It wont be EXACTLY the same, because of the following reasons :

* Most parameters on the hardware have a small range. 90% of the parameters have 64 steps and some even less. This is not the case for the SFP version - all the parameters have millions of steps.
* All the algorithms combined have 450 presets
* At this moment, you can only set time values in ms and not bpm - So no tempo control in the first release.

Besides that - It should be the same - more or less :smile:

Cheers

Hi,

Unfortunately I dont have a price setting at this moment. But I believe the price will be very cheap compared to the quality :smile:

Each of the algorithms will be sold as new plug-ins, since they're quite different. Its not a question about another set of early reflections (like normal software based reverbs), but a totally new structure and therefore a completely different sound. But ofcourse there will be some sort of a bundle deal.

Kind regards

Any judgements concerning the quality ?
(can't try, not at home)

And what about the DSP hunger ?

Well,rodos you said it dosnt matter how much
dsp power your dream reverb for pulsar need.
Why waiting ?Buy a Lexicon Mpx 1 (about 500€)
like me and you`ll be satisfied without losing dsp power!This, was one of my reasons
to buy it.I love Master verb but i cant use much of it,its to havy on dsp.So i have the Lexicon (wich is much better than mv)and more
power.Never mind about the money.
Look ,wenn you want the Waves reverb (wich is not better for me than MV)you have to pay now ,what? 1000€?OK it comes not alone ,but you cant buy it stand alone .
So i highly recommend you:buy a Lexicon!
Youll never regret.

agree with captain Nemo, I have one and the thing is great, specially (if you may not know this) coz it has digital in/out, as does your Pulsar card :smile:
