Hi! I just got my new system up and working:

sfp 3.1c
win xp pro sp1
asus p4p800 deluxe w/P4 2.6GHz
1GB mem
lunaII in slot 1
pulsarXTC in slot 5 (sharing irq)
adaptec aha-2940U2W SCSI host controller in slot 3
Powercolor Radeon 9200SE (agp set to 4x).

Did a lot of twaking on WinXP as recommended an various web-sites.

Audio working great. Everything seems fine (in fact, just beautifully!)

except...

----------start of problem description--------------
After a certain amount of midi-input from my roland midi-keyboard (might be 50 notes, or up to 300), the computer freezes! Any sounds in the card the last couple of fragments of a second loops infinitely and there is no response at all to keyboard or mouse use. => reboot
----------end of problem description--------------

Various programs installed, but none running. Beginning to believe in a totally fresh reinstall already. But before that, I'd like to ask here if this is a known problem. Planetz was vital to my last setup, maybe it also will be for my current setup.

Thanks!

Wow... Just had a look at the forum on the official Creamware-site:

http://195.227.6.9/viewtopic.php?t=734
("random crashes" on troubleshooting forum)
where AndreD answers:
AndreD wrote on the Creamware forums:
"there seems to be a problem with physical pulsar/Luna2 midi in and latest mainboards..."

..there IS a problem concerning pulsar midi in, SFP 3.1C and ASUS 800 Mainboareds! (changing the MB from P4P 800 to P4t 533C sloved this problem in our tests)

Seems like I have the same problem as the guy on the other forum.... (yes, the computer crashes also without playing the midi-keyboard it seems)... I have an Asus 800 motherboard. Do I wait to see if a bios-upgrade might fix the problem? (I have installed the latest (1012), so in that case, I'll just have to wait... OR; should I buy myself another midi-interface? OR; is there another solution?

No, it seems like I can't switch off the active-send stuff. Couldn't find anything about it in the manual, anyway. (Roland RD-100, quite simple interface). You believe there might be a connection between MIDI active send and the crashes?

Thanks!

I am now borrowing a cheap usb midi-interface that goes straight into midi-ox, which filters out the active sensing signals from the piano, and then sends the rest of the signals to sfp. Seems like it's working very well.

This is a little strange: If I don't filter out the active sensing midi signals, I have the same result as plugging the piano midi directly into my LunaII: CRASH after some minutes.

Will using the SFP midi filter to cut out active sensing help with this problem or do we have to stop this pre SFP?

I had not connected anything to the "luna midi in" device when having the crashes, so I believe it won't help filtering, although I have not tried yet.

to make it shure:

disconnect all external midi gear and test your system again...

I'm still having a perfectly good time here, sfp working great when the active sensing signals is filtered out by midiox. No crashes for many days  . Nothing connected to luna midi in.

strange but true
Really? You mean physically? Plug the midi-cable into my keyboard only AFTER having started sfp? Freaky. Thanks for the tip, I'll try it right away.
