A band I was in once owned one of these (amongst a mountain of other stuff).
The 101 had just one thing going for it: it was small and you could play it like a guitar. The real version had a stubby little handle with a mod wheel...
You still looked like a desperate goose wearing it, but at least you could wander around.
But generally we all (an all-synth band) thought that it was a bit of a joke since the range of sounds out of that machine was pretty sparse. When it came time to record it never got a look-in. It was a mobile machine, not a 'sound' machine - ( although the portamento seemed to have good 'timing' )
This is not to say that this emulation is no good. And certainly tastes change. Nor does simple = bad ! Maybe this will appeal to the same crowd that can never seem to get enough of 303 emulations
