What i would REALLY like, is a metronome for SFP...

Something that not only play a tick, but display the actual bpm of mtc it's receiving (slave mode). If it's not receiving MTC, it can receive smpte code from the clk out of VRC-S or VRC-128. So it act in master mode. That mea you fix the bpm yourself directly in the metronome device, and it would generate MTC to it's midi out, plus obviously the audible click.

Also it should be a kind of audio passthru.

I mean, left side of the device should have these connections:

midi in
clk in
audio L in
audio R in

And right side should have :

midi out (sending MTC based on the bpm that you set in the metronome device itself if in master mode or letting pass thru the MTC it receive if in slave mode)

audio L out and audio R out with the added click sound.

The click sound should be adjustable (loudness, timbre, and clock division)

Would be totaly usefull when making live tracking.

I would be willing to pay to have this...

It could have a nice visual, like a real metronome, or a "digital" look like in the Björk "Hyperballad" live clip. (five light, having the middle one brigther, and be the click mark itself).

Maybe even 2 different size available, the "work size" with normal not too big interface. And a HUGE one for live performance visual reference.

I bet it's not too hard to do, and would really be something innovative and usefull for alot of people on our platform.

Thanks in advance to THE developer who's gonna do it

May I add something to the wish list?

I would like to be able to set minimum BPM and maximum BPM on a metronome. Minimum BPM is played, if the metronome recieves MIDI controller 0, and maximum BPM will be played, it the metronome recieves MIDI controller message 127. Presets would be needed too.

It will be usefull both in live and studio situations, when the song is supposed to change speede very gradualy. Even having just MIDI out to play one of the old samplers would be nice - or even better the option to load a sample into the metronome.

If something like this does not show up in the soon to come Samplitude 7.2, I will also be in the market for paying for such a thing. 40€ish, if it is good?

Your idea is great! I would add one thing but I'm afraid it's difficult to implement (correct me if I'm wrong): when I set thje midi clock in any sfp device to external (I mean SB 404, Synchrotron, Arpeg0X) it receives very unstable clock... If it would be improved in conjunction with your specs the device would be great!

Yeah, good idea! Could easily be used to tighten all clock dependent devices from the same source

A metronome would be a welcomed device.

There is a very simple metronome device available. Just midi in/out and click out.
It has some ADSR envelope controll also.

I found it, but, it is merely a small synth...

The metronome i need should be able to take MTC/smpte from VDAT or VRC-S or VRC-128.

The goal is NOT to have a sequencer running when recording a live band, but still have a click.

So, using the incoming clock signal, you would select the tempo at which the metronome clicks.

Yes, I understand.

You might be able to get a click from the Mod 2 using the MDS8 (drum sequencer), but I have not manage to controll this all with MTC from the VRC.

Still no developper interested in doing this?

I pass my turn on this one

I can give you the reason : there's a metronome in the sequencer I use

So far, the clock instabilities when synch SFP devices to external are due to the sequencer (like cubase SX). I have a hardware clock and the SFP display are really stable and doesn't go crazy anymore like with the sequencers.

But I beleive a SFP device that generate a clock is equivalent to using the device with "internal" bpm setting, but without note on/off trigger messages or seq start/stop, which "must" come from the sequencer/midi generator (note On message are essential to me so...).

You explained other reasons but I don't use the same setup so I wouldn't be able to test it anyway (I generally don't design something that I wouldn't use myself, for lack of time, as it is long and difficult to make anything in DP).

Sorry for the disapointment, if any. Other developpers may be interested though.

I totally agree with implementing MTC receiving devices, the time to have some serious use of the platform as independent recording environment has come!
