Hi

Just ordered UAD-1 card instead of second pulsar because the FX assortment in pulsar itself doesn't fulfill my needs (compressors). But I would like to ask about channelstrip EQ's in UAD-1 card. How does it compare to pulsar EQ? I've read that the basic EQ in uad is not good. Can somebody give a comment about this, please?

It's my second choice after Timeworks Vintage Eq. Very nice, imo. Cambridge would
be sweeeet, though. Gonna start saving for that after I get ModIII and Flexor .

Hi Gedas

Do you have uad-1? Could you tell me more about how do you like EX-1 EQ? Is it cold and sterile?
What comes to pulsar default eq, it sounds superior compared to any software eq I own.
I would like to do all my work in SFP environment, but second card for DSP power + sweet vinco would have been too expensive for me

I don't think there's anything with UAD that could be considered "cold and sterile".

The EX-1 eq's certainly aren't the best, but they're a lot better than any of the regular software eq's I've tried (like the Waves ones).

I don't mix / eq with SFP much, so I don't know how they compare with those. I am getting Cambridge soon though. It's a steal at $150.00 for how it sounds.

Pick up a UAD and don't regret it. It's amazing for the compressors alone.

Otherwise, if oyu want the best eq and compressor for SFP, Timeworks EQ and Creamware Vinco are the way to go.

Hi Stige,

Yes I do own UAD-1, and I totally agree with sinix - nothing "cold and sterile" on UAD. Pulsar EQ is certainly useable too. I mix in SFP, using UAD for dynamics and eq on vocals/acoustic instruments mainly. For its price UAD-1 is hard to beat. Actually, it's hard to beat at any price

Thank you all for your help.
Now I feel a wee bit more comfortable with the money I'm going to spend. I must agree that vinco sounds very good, but it's just too expensive to buy along with new pulsar for extra DSP.
I wish i had the patience to wait my uad-1 to arrive lol

If you get a new Pulsar before chrismas you can choose the mix n master pack that contains vintage compressor along with some other goodies.

I think I'll get a UAD 1 eventually though. Use the compressors on the UAD 1 and save all the DSP on my Creamware cards for synths.

This is the way I do it, Minimax through the UAD-1's LA2A & Pultec is almost too good for words. It's definitely one of the reasons I've been using less & less hardware over the past year.

The STW Vintage EQ doesn't work in XTC mode, that makes me sad. [:(]

I very much dislike the channel EQs on the UAD-1, but the card is totally worth it just for the comps.

Timeworks has no decidedly no interest in making their stuff XTC compatible. I barked loudly up this tree about a year ago to no avail... Shame though. The STW VinEQ and CompX just flat out do the job. Love 'em.

The problem is that programming the Vintage EQ and the other plugs for XTC mode will cost alot of time. And therfore we must be willing to pay something for the upgrade. As far as I am concerned....I would pay for the upgrade!! The problem is, we must all be willing to pay for it!

Maybe, there`s a deal we could seal whith ST, which includes only the really great plugs....for instance the Vintage EQ. But in order to do so, we must set up a new poll or somethin like that.... Anyway all cummunications concerning this matter will have to be made over Kimgr.

Like I wrote to Sunshine in a private mail, I'll have a look at the possiblities of doing XTC mode again. We ARE talking about a big update and a lot of work. (<- =Time -> =Money)
When I did the original SFP update, XTC mode didn't work, and there was no documentation available on how to make it work...
I only JUST NOW got XTC mode working on my own system. Well, sort of: I can't get the directplay feature working, so I can use it for mixdown only

But right now I'm strugling with some difficult bugs that needs fixing...

regrettably, closing and reloading DAW projects causes the STW plugs in multifx to reload inconsistently for me. wasn't workable, unless I specifically saved a preset before closing and then reloaded it each time I opened a project. If I use >dozen EQs & comps in a project, this quickly becomes a pita. not scalable. :|
