My question is...
Does this tweak provide enough of a change in speed that it is worth risking crashes and other problems? My first conern when using a computer for music is stability over speed. I would rather sacrafice a little speed for a more stable system.
Memory Performance Tweak XP
I got these tweaks to work, but like Rodos, I had mem probs loading large samples to my STS4000. Same thing, lots of free mem but the STS told me there wasn't enough. I think it was the first two tweaks, not the IOPageLockLimit. I need to experiment to find out for sure.

I used a value of TotalMem_in_kB / 4
In my case: 1Gb / 4 = 256 Mb = 262144 kB which is 40000 Hex.
Earlyfirst, you were absolutely right, now I can see my 'puter fly (better close the windows). As I have enough RAM I also tested running with NO Pagefile. Wow!!
All the apps I use (SFP,Logic,FL) seem to run without pagefile very well. I've been testing with VDAT and things never ran smoother than they do now. Thanx for the tip, EarlyFirst. It's time to get some real reverbs on this system
Cheers,
Rob

and what number for 1 and 2 gb ram?
3.create a new dword and name it IOPageLockLimit - double click it and set the value in hex - 4000 if you have 128MB of ram or set it to 10000 if you have 256MB set it to 40000 if you have more than 512MB of ram -this tweak will speed up your disckcache
Reboot and watch your system fly
thnx

So there it is, divide the mem you have by 4, convert it to hex and enjoy! If, and only IF they still use the same limits as back in the '98 days (good old Vcache was limited to 512Mb) you might run in to trouble with this rule on BigMem configurations. On the other hand, if you have so much memory (1 or 2 Gb) try to disable paging completeley. I did, and all I can say is: WOW!On 2003-10-15 17:36, Rob van Berkel wrote:

Good hintsindeed but:
I have a dual boot system(C:games and burning stuff;D:music).When i use the first registry change(DisablePagingExecutive)my D:partition
dosent boot any more:( and on C: my image programm "Acronis True Image"(wonderful piece of software)dosent work properly
.
So i used just the other two changes and the system is working , faster than before. With Gigastudio no problems.
Thankyou for this ,becouse searched such usefull things and didnt found something resonable.

Well... my computer will definately not boot after these tweaks. Even Safe Mode isn't possible anymore. The only way to load XP properly again was by choosing 'last known working configuration' after pressing F5 during boot.On 2003-06-23 15:37, Shayne White wrote:
Question: If I change these registry settings, is there a chance Windows won't boot up? I'm anxious to see if it does improve performance, but I don't want to mess up anything crucial.
Thanks,
Shayne

Yep loaded old project afte tweaks and Giga couldn't load samples. On 2003-04-19 07:54, rodos1979 wrote:
Hello to all!
I have tried too this memory tweak and it worked very nice. My PC was finally taking full advantage of its RDRAM.
However, things got screwed up when I tried to load some instruments in GigaStudio. Although, I still had 50% memory free to load more samples, gigastudio told me that there is not memory available and showed me then a nice blue screen. This happened 10 consecutive times. Then I changed the settings back and everything was fine again.
It seems that Gigastudio doesnt like this memory tweak....such a pity!....![]()
