Best to control delays via clock or bpm?

Greetings all,

Well in an ongoing bout to figure this all out, what would be the best way to clock delays or even yet, sync synth lines? since on most synths you are unable to input a bpm I am just lost trying to figure out this part.

The main issue is that I do not use the PowerPulsar's midi as I use a Midex8 for my midi, sooooo, what would you all suggest, I was told that if I try and use an external clock source such as my sequencer I could possibly get pops and clicks due to the way CW synths and effects are built, but I cant seem to get that dead on delay sound I am looking for with out it, since slightly off delays will cause phasing in the synth parts.

Now if I come to the conclusion that external sync is best, how would I go about setting that up in SFP?

As always all, thank you so kindly in advance

Cheers!

i usually use internal BPM because of the external timing issue causing pops. However this is a known issue with VST's clock i believe, not SFP - don't know about other sequencers.

i've always been happy with using internal BPM but then my timing seems to be somewhat sloppier than your requirements

Aww,

Come on now, I may be a stickler for timing, but its for good cause, in my style of production I rely heavily on timing for many aspects not just synth and drums but also specifics in effects processing, such as an example of an auto panning delay effect with a high cut filter running behind it to give a unique modulating effect.

If the delay and auto pan in not right it will sound decent, but when I can have full control over its properties it can sound very powerfull.

Just me I guess

Cheers!

Which sequencer are you using? i know VST had a clock problem, don't know if it's been fixed in SX2 or Nuendo2.

It's not just you. We all want stuff to be on time, because it can make or break the part.

Here I'd use the internal sync for now, then make any corrections to the audio(sound familiar?).

There might be one or two parts in the file that are not fully on, but with synth parts I find that depending on the variance, the human ear can be forgiving. Don't get analysis paralysis and try to make it perfect (even though I sometimes need to hear that myself).
